Wesker wanted the parasite sample so people infected with the virus would retain, at least some, of their mental cognition.

      From GameTrailers
      "Different virus than in RE4"
"Parasite is mentioned as infecting hosts and "changing them". Now GameTrailers may have mistaken the word virus to mean paraste, but I believe that it might be a combination of a NEW parasite and an either new virus and the old progenitor virus combo OR just the new parasite and the old progenitor virus combo. Because it is also mentioned that the new infection whatever it is, came from the volcanoes in the area or something like that so...
      http://www.gamespot.com/video/929198...il-5-interview here is the interview.
"He noted RE5 is set in Africa and follows Chris Redfield on an adventure that will lead him to discover the origins of the progenitor virus seen in RE: Code Veronica."- Gamespot

well the game also said it mostly takes place in africa, so it could very well be like CV where you go from the Island to Anarctica in some shape or form.

Yes, they say Chris finds the origin of the prgentator virus...they're is nothing said about it actually being responsible though. Currently all we have to go on as the source of the infection is the visual of a fist sized creature with tentitcles being rammed down someone's throat...and I'm sure I don't need to tell you that a virus, a single celled organism, could not be that size. Nor could it move, again, as it is a single cell creature. Technically speaking a virus isn't actually alive, and so wouldn't be wiggly.

However, I'd be an idiot to believe that we'll simply discover the Progenator virus origins and it won't have any effect bar storyline. Therefore my favorite theory is that whichever parasite it is, Nemesis or Las Plagas, is infected with the Progenator, causing the mutations we've seen if it is based on Las Plagas.

Which is what I've been saying the last few days.

Or maybe it is a little different story. We will descover the origins of the progenitor virus rite, and we saw the parasite like creatures, and we know that they are connected so maybe the progenitor virus came from that parasites? Here how it may had hapened: in 1960's Spenser, Ashford and Marcus discovered this little bastards in Africa experimented on them and gained the Progenitor virus.

They did find them in Africa. If I remember Wesker's report correctly, they were doing experiments on viruses like Ebola and Marburg, which heavily influenced the Umbrella viruses. They better have a pretty interesting way of giving the virus an orgin and a history. I think its safe to say that no matter what type of parasite/virus, it's going to have a very crucial impact on the rest of the storyline from here on out (if they decide to make more games of course).

Why is everyone getting so hostile and defensive over what other people say? If you've got an idea, great. If its different from someone else's, great. That means it gives more people things to think about.

You know Rosetta, I always say that it is good to have a healthy and not offensive argument to share opinions with each other. It helps to make conversation more interesting.

Differing opinions is what makes the world go around. I must admit, I probably have been more defensive than I should be...too many folks telling me I'm not a true fan of RE because I'm not impressed with the direction it's taking.

Who the hell are they to say if you are a true fan or not! I hate this kind of people I belive you call them bitchers. Dont listen to them but listen to yourself instead and just remember that even the person who played only in RE4 can be a true fan if he likes it very much. The games are to intertane people and not to fight for them.

Thats slightly what I was leading up to. Healthy debates are great, but people lately seem to have been getting very jumpy. I love hearing other people's opinions.

I think anyone trying to tell someone else they aren't a true fan needs to get their head checked. It's not up to them to judge your personal love for the series. And don't worry...I wasn't aiming it at anyone in particular. I've just noticed whenever people are talking about what may or may not happen, they tend to seem more catty. I think everyone here has very good points to back their arguments, which is why I so love being on this forum. Dot and the rest of the staff and members do a great job keeping this place as one of the best sites for RE news and info.
