  • Resident Evil 5's Controls Changing, Screenshots

Jun Takeuchi, while speaking to Kotaku, revealed that at the Tokyo Game Show the controls for Resident Evil 5 may be different. He goes on to say that the team really likes Call of Duty and Gears of War, so a control scheme more in line with those games is possible.

It's possible that a lot of people who play Resident Evil 5 may not have played Resident Evil 4. But they might have played Gears of Wars or Call of Duty. Those are both games that I and our team really, really like. So don't be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different. For now, we have the control set up for RE4. I'm not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people.
Hopefully there is an option for the good old tank controls for us stubborn veterans.

Heres a heads up for you trailer fanatics; Sony has the "truck crash" version of the trailer on the US PSN now, so if you simply cannot stand Japanese subtitles, go grab it now (or wait til tomorrow when we post it). Finally, better late than never, we have the screenshots which were released with Capcom's press asset packs. They are all in their original resolution, which is a gigantic 2560x1440. You can view them below.

I'll have the three trailer variations (as well as the newly released English "truck" version), along with the four gameplay videos Capcom released up tomorrow sometime, in SD, HD and streaming varieties, so check back for that. Just to clear any confusion up about these trailer variations, it seems Capcom gave one version to both Microsoft and Sony. Sony ended up with the truck one, Microsoft got the Sheva humvee one, and Capcom themselves released a more complete one that focused on the cloaked woman and a new female character in a white dress.

Yet more proot that RE is becoming more of an action game and losing its survival horror roots.

hmm, who the hell is the woman in white in one of the new trailers, is she the one the masked woman is bodyguarding perhaps and not the guy?
I've convinced myself that the masked person is Jill, i'm desperate for her to be in it haha

I have to say those screen shots look great. Too bad the final product will not look as detail on a PS3 or 360. However there may be some hope for a PC port that could handle it though.

            Spoiler:

RE hardcore fans: WTF?? RE5 doesn't look like Resident Evil at all...
Capcom devs: What?? Didn't you see the red and white umbrellas we included??!

LOL! Yeah Capcom can definetly say that after the relise of the game Anyway RE5 looks like an insane product of GOW, ARMY OF TWO and MGS4 orgy, I'am not quite glad about it but it still gona be a great game.

I'm pretty sick of Sheva already to be honest, it feels like it's just all about her now

If they do make the controls like Gears of War or Call of Duty 4, they're going to have to seriously crank up the enemy AI for the game to not be broken.

My thoughts exactly. All these new characters so late in the series...if they planned on wrapping things up (or at least the main storyline) you'd think they'd at least use a majority of the original cast. Chris is fine and dandy...but Jill, Rebecca, and Barry were apart of that group too.

Agreed but the producers were too lazy to come up with a reason to have these characters in the game. I really doubt they are going to wrap up the main storyline and they are going to milk this parasite/virus thing for a while.

I know I'm probably the only person who's glad they didn't bring back everyone for this game, but I think it was a smart move. When you bring back every character in a franchise and stuff them into one game just to please fanboys/girls, you wind up with a complete mess like MGS4. Besides, it makes sense for Chris to have a partner who actually lives in Africa, as she would know the area far better than he would. Not to mention she could speak the language.

There are many big differences between MGS and RE. Many of the MGS characters were vital to the plot. I didn't think they jumbled things up too much. Practically everyone had something plot wise that was worth contributing. True, certain people (Akiba, Big Mama) made a few things seem a bit stretched, but I thought everything was ended well.

If they say they are tying things up, they should bring back the four people that went through the intial hell, or at least the two main playables. Barry at least has an excuse to sit out (he's aged and wants to be with his family). That would leave just three people. Rebecca could have easily been a side character. The producers have ten years of back story (possibly just 3 depending on what gets taken care of during Degeneration) to explain things. That is a lot to cover.

I understand the need for Sheva....but Leon was sent to Spain without any knowledge of the language, and from what the trailers have shown of the African region, they are speaking English just fine. Just because the intial footage is in Africa doesn't necessarily mean they will stay there. There is that part where Chris is on the battle ship deck. It's very possible they may go somewhere else.
