RE5 is looking awesome.

I too was a bit sick and tired of Wesker. Especially in recent titles, where it's kinda all about him. Like the whole RE universe revolves around HIM. I'd like to see or at least hear about Lord Spencer or some of the other higher powers controlling things. I wouldn't be disappointed if they killed him off (again).
But the new pics of him look good. He looks cool and dangerous again. Unlike the dorky banker from RE4 and RE-UC. His face reminds me of the real life actor from the intro to the original game.

The chick in white get my tick of approval too. She could be an asset to the game (or 2 assets ... sorry I couldn't resist)

So, if next we hear that Wesker is driving around in a black car, suddenly that 'leaked EGM article' would be looking a lot more credible...

To the topic at hand though, I AM PSYCHED. I was expecting Wesker to be in the game, but seeing the images released just made me GLEE. Oh man, I can't wait until March. *_*

The REmake doesn't excite me as much. Unless there winds up being any more news about more extras for it. I will keep my fingers crossed.

For me, Wesker's presence symbolizes the "potential" for Capcom to tie up the many, many, many loose ends in the RE series. Wesker represents the continuity that I care about - not some ridiculous side story where the enemies are a village chief, a midget, and a guy with a "gift" ala Japanese tentacle porn.

I don't see anything "overrated" about Wesker. The story element to bring him back from the dead was actually a good one, in my opinion. It gave this series an honest-to-God antagonist, other than a faceless corporation. Or, just an evil old man (Spencer) who really doesn't pose a physical threat. And it was a terrific surprise to see him the first time in RECV, and realize that he'd lived.

Besides, it's not like Wesker made any prominent appearances until Umbrella Chronicles. He's worked in the background in RE0, RE1, and RE4 (didn't even show up until the end). He was a major player in RECV, but still only popped in and out.

If any character in this series is "overrated" - I'd say it is Ada Wong, or Rebecca Chambers. (And I like both of those characters.) Ada was initially a regular woman in RE1, who became a simple spy in RE2, who became a skimpily-dressed Cirque de Soleil acrobat ninja spy that swings through the air in RE4. As for Rebecca - she makes a great sidekick (in RE1), but an unimpressive lead character (RE0).

Be that as it may, Wesker's presence in RE4 sure didn't represent continuity or tie up loose ends. All he did was create more questions and end every sentence with the word 'sample'....

I wouldn't be suprised if a similar thing happens in RE5. Seems like he's a bit more of a prominent character, though, being announced from the outset.
