You people take things way too seriously.

agreed.. there are a lot of them. wouldn't that make people excited to see someone come back? there's a ton of them that are made, hardly get old as people do feel attached and like them, and then they're gone. i mean would people object to billy coming back or some other decent character like barry etc?

Big problem with "old characters" is probably HOW do you bring them back?
Sure, they had Barry do a little bit of action in Gaiden.
But remember why Barry was around in the first game?
He was there basically for the safety of his family, more or less. It's obvious that after something like this, he'd try to spend as much time at home as humanly possible.
Billy? He probably ran off to his freedom. Though, I guess he might be someone that could be "bumped into" somehow, but then you kinda gotta bring the trouble to him, and not him seeking out trouble somehow.
Rebecca? Sure, that one you might be possible to "send out" again, I guess. But wasn't she really supposed to be the field medic of the team? I'd say she'd be a possible return as a possible supporting role, that's it. But she was a rookie, not some specialist. And most of her "successful" field experience consists of countless cases of euthanasia.
Carlos? This man might be possible to somehow drag into the picture again too. But I'd say that anyone with their name listed on the Umbrella side of things that've "gotten out" probably likes to lay low. You'd probably have to bring trouble to him.
There's hardly any proper way "main story"-wise to bring back old characters. Leon was brought back in a sensible way, and all people did was bitch about the story not being about his first day on the job.
In general, bringing back old people means you have to put them in new settings. Sometimes, such a setting/story is better told in a totally different non-survival horror way, even. And I bet that'd upset "fans" even more.
Also, I guess this is already noted by most, but the RE games have in general had their main characters operate in pairs.
From 3 and out, those pairs have been "One Old and One New" (REØ, RE3, RE5) and "Two Old and One New" (RE:CV, RE4).
Personally, I'm more of a fan of the Outbreak approach, 'cause that allows you to go back to the main incident and put more people into the heart of the mess going on and "take it from there". I'd actually like to see someone tossed into the mix who for some reason can't "fight back". (Yeah, I love my "disaster" games!)Last edited by Carnivol; 10-27-2008, 04:11 AM.

Well, it's not like everyone who escapes from a zombie-infested mansion/city chooses to just jump right back in some other zombie-infested place. Rebecca for one seems like she's already had enough of fighting the undead and escaping from hunters who want to slash her head off. Same with Carlos and Billy.Seibu teh geimu?

AJ I agree with you on Billy and why he has not come back. Its seems capcom just keeps characters alive because they don't know if they are going to use them again and want to keep them just in case. I think some characters need to killed or told what happened to them. I only hope that Barry is the weapon supplier for the BSAA and we get to see him again.
