I know this is off-topic, but I can't wait for this game to be released... simply for the fact I am sick of seeing headlines that read "SUPR-SEKRT COCKTEAZN RE5 NEWZ!!1! COMES 2 OUR SITE, NOWZ!!1!".
It seems like every website in existence with connection to playing prototypes of video games are all yellin "We played RE5! Now we know everything about it, and YOU don't! Come to our site, and find out how we are more privileged than you!"
Resident Evil 5 is going to have about an hour of cut-scenes. However, I don't think that exactly means there will be less story. I think a lot of the dialog will be in real-time between Chris and Sheva, like how they communicate in the Public Assembly level of the demo. This is an interesting direction I think.
theres no way the game will have 1 hour of cutscenes re4 had almost 2 and this game is more story oriented than 4 they are not gonna show wesker for 30 sec and explain the whole story in 1 min that would be retarded and stupid but i do belive it will have 2:30 min of cutscenes and the rest is gameplay 18-20 hour of gameplay and 1 hour of cutscenes??? bs simply bs

well, before RE4 no one would ahve ever thought capcom would be stupid enough to kill of umbrella in 3 seconds randomly for no reason in a tiny cutscene telling the backstory in RE4.
after playing though the Metal Gear series just recently, RE5's story is gonna seem pretty crap to me now, and 1 hours of cutscenes. that's basically all chance of a good story out the window.

Metal Gear Solid is a pretty poor example of good game storytelling. Partly the reason the MGS series falters so hard in this regard is because of too many cut-scenes. There is a lot of story to MGS, but the dialog is so poorly written it inflates the narrative by huge extents, especially in MGS3 and 4, where at least 50% of the dialog could have been trimmed and the games would have been a lot better.
Other games like Silent Hill and Legacy of Kain don't rely on tons of cut-scenes to tell a fantastic story. The REmake didn't have a lot of cut-scenes but the story was still very, very good. I'm not saying the story in RE5 will be good inherently because of its lack of cut-scenes, but I think less cut-scenes will have the developers tell the story in more interesting ways than just cut-scenes, like the in-game chatter between Chris and Sheva. It helps emphasize that cut-scenes be used more sparingly, and thus for more important events, and other laid-back sequences could be told entirely in gameplay. That is assuming Capcom pulls it off, and I think they will.

i strongly disagree on MGS, i love all the cutscenes, i think it adds so much to the depth of a character. i think the story is awesome in it.
but there are different types of story telling,a nd different genre's to it, i love the type thye use in the classics and silent hill and even in Gears of Wars with chatter and things, and i love the long complicated style MGS uses.
but i can't help but notice how similar RE5 looks to MGS and even RE4, and the RE series has changed it's way of story telling. there trying to copy or emulate MGS's style of story telling, and i know there probably gonna fail hard.

Resident Evil, believe it or not has a rich universe, and that’s the key-point on how it tells the story, and even in 4 it still does to a extent. The narration was told mainly through the world around you than just cut scenes; files, the environment and the destruction around you. All of this is one of the elements that make the franchise stand out. The fourth instalment, even for its cheesy story, still had a few interesting areas on its narration, but how the overall plot fitted in this chapter, it was poorly executed.
Resident Evil 5 will be one of the most satisfying stories told in the series, for it’s a continuation of Chris and Wesker’s battle for good and evil, and for some long running questions being answered, in a world of fear for expecting another bio-terror outbreak. One part I am looking forward too is the dialogue through out the game’s progress, other than the cut scenes ala gears of war, because this is one strong point for story telling, to keep the game’s momentum to the player going. I can see around a total of around 2 hours off cut scenes in the game, excluding the other elements on the lore, to be in the game.
As for Metal Gear Solid’s story, it has a good story but it IS poorly edited on how some of the game is told, but I love it for how it is.
