If there's a remake for RE2, I hope they will really remake it.. not reuse the Ada in RE4 like they did in UC. Ada should look.. younger. Lol.

Well, I'm being biased so I want to see a remake of RE2.. hoping that they'll also make a better b*tch fight between Ada and Annette. XD

Yeah, I'm in the same camp as those who want to see it done akin to REmake. In the previous topic Rombie mentioned something about too many bleeding film and video game remakes, which confused me. I agree with his assertion that there are too many film remakes (especially because they don't exactly reach the level of competence seen in Invasion of the Body Snatchers '78 or The Thing, which in itself is a massive understatement), but I feel game remakes are a completely different beast (look at REmake, Ninja Gaiden, Rygar etc.).

The reason I'm curious to see a RE2make is the same reason other people don't want to see it. RE2 was the pinnacle of the PS1 era and the execution of it was near-perfect. It's certainly my favorite in the series. Translated with up to date visuals and sound I feel would only work in the series's favor. Now, on the subject of REmake-like expansion of the scenarios, I can't really think of ways they could do it (though I'm sure nobody was expecting what they did to RE1), but I have another idea: Make Scenario A and B more distinct, and allow them to interact more, whichever character you choose. Plus if I recall there were still some inconsistencies, if minor ones; please prove me wrong. Or there could be references to 1.5 that fans have been clamoring for (if not the entire incomplete build as a bonus). Ciaren's mention of REmake and RE0 Wii doing well surprised me, as it proves there's still a market for the old-stlye gameplay, for the developers' consideration.

I'll accept that this idea could fuck up horribly (it's like a house of cards, introduce one shoddy gameplay idea and the whole thing comes crashing down), but in that event, I'll just play the original RE2 and hate on the remake on internet forums (RAH!). I tire of generalized statements like Skunky's, though. It reeks of "you're not a true fan if yadda yadda yadda..."

I don't have time to repeat myself right now as to why this is potentially a really bad idea (just look at the poor, sad imitation of the Nemesis in UC).
        I vote NO, for a RE2 remake!!!

I get the feeling sometimes, that some people screaming for a RE2 remake have never even played the original. It's just become a popular thing to say.
        "OMG RE2 remake wud own!"
You don't think before you speak do you?

Umbrella Chronicles had a relatively limited budget to a project of this calibre. Cavia probably didn't have a lot to work with and thus created Umbrella Chronicles the way it was.

As for RE2, there is HEAPS they can do with it. So much events went on during the game (including parts of RE3) that there is a lot of content to add in.

RE2 is a very short game, I didn't realise it until my recent play through of all the games - they would have to extend the experience in my eyes to make it decent. Perhaps even make Claire/Leon visit some of those areas linked to RE Zero (oh wait, they visited them already ) or at least add in some kind of sub plot like Lisa Trevor was added. Heck, include some more Ada/Wesker scenes or something.

Just flesh it out a little bit more is what I'm asking, I guess.

There is nothing wrong with RE2. It's awesome as it stands.
I agree with that. But RE2 or RE3 with REmake's treatment would kick ass.

I'm sensing some hostility here... Cages have been rattled!

I usually do think before I post. That's why I was careful of the language I used. Maybe you should learn to read before you attack me, James.
I said it's 'potentially' a bad idea. Get a dictionary and look up that word.

I'm against remakes but REmake was great. It was very respectful to the original, followed the story very closely and the small changes and additions they made were mostly very good. I love that game. The only thing I didn't like were the lame 'bonus' modes, like 'Exploding Zombies' and 'Invisible Enemies' (but that's another matter).
If RE2 was done in a similar way it would be awesome. A high-def, incredible looking version, with more areas to explore, extended story, more zombies etc. Bigger and better in every way!

But my point is, they might not do it like that. They could potentially make a giant f**k up of it all. Change too much, retcon everything, change key gameplay elements and change the appearance of iconic characters and monsters. It could be a horrible disaster.

The last time they went backwards, was UC. I'm not really buying your excuse for that game (I actually quite like it. It's fun in its own way). I'm sure the time and money spent on UC were both well beyond the time and money spent on RE3. The Wii is twice as powerful as the GC and the GC is a shitload more powerful than the PS1. So why does the PS1 Nemesis look and sound a lot better than the Nemesis in UC? It was an art and design 'choice'. Nothing to do with budgets.

The last classic style games Capcom made were Zero and Outbreak file 2. Both of those games were received poorly by reviewers and the press and they sold badly (considering the huge and loyal fanbase the series already had). It was really only the old, hardcore fans, who were keeping the series alive at that stage. Many people thought the series had crawled away and retired. It had run out of steam and the world had moved on.
That's why RE4 was such a radical change. Capcom decided to change things and it worked. RE4 was an amazing success.
Since then we've had UC. An on rails shooter, with a focus on 2 player co-op. And now RE5, with a focus on online, 2 player co-op.
I havn't seen any indication from Capcom that they are ready to go back to the classic style. This is why I would be worried about an RE2 remake. If they don't remake it, they can't f**k it up!
Eg: They have Leon and Claire, so why not just stick them together for the whole game, so people can play online in co-op?

And if they do remake RE2, what's next?
RE3? RE-CV? RE4 would look great in HD? (that would actually be easier than rebuilding the earlier games) A remake of REmake? Where will it end?
An RE2 remake would be a huge project. Probably taking between 2 and 4 years. So we would then have to wait 6 or 8 years for another new game.

IMO, RE2 is great as it is and I feel a remake is unnecessary. It should be left alone and Capcom should put it's resources into making more new games. RE6, RE-Operation Whatever, RE-Code Something, etc...
If they do remake it, I'll be excited but also very nervous. I'd be buying multiple editions however it turns out because I'm a fanatic. But fanatics aren't that important to Capcom. The gaming masses are what's important. That's where the money comes from and that's why I think it would have to appeal to them (and not necessarily old school RE fans).

I hope that explains my position better... gotta go.

I think RE 2 is perfect and there is nothing wrong with the game. The more I think about capcom remaking, the more I think they will fuck it up.

Well guys, I understand that alot of people hate remakes, I do too (as in : I hate oldschool movie-remakes ). But I kinda trust Capcom on remaking RE2, I believe those guys can really dig up the old atmosphere and then make the chills creep up my spine once again by adding some extras like they did with REmake.. UC was a completely different type of game and attracted alot of new players (judging by friends out here, who always hated RE..) but the focus was not exactly on the atmosphere I guess, I kinda had the feeling it was al about action, blasting at zombies and other creatures.. and of course close up some of the storyparts.. I liked the REmake, in fact I LOVED it and I think capcom can make me happy again, like they will next week, when RE5 finally is available :p

I agree. Rebirth expanded upon an old classic, thus resulting in a somewhat new, yet improved classic. I positive the same can be done with BioHazard 2.

Again, I agree. It would be nice to see events from the two coinciding in a single game. It would make the overall gameplay longer than just a couple of hours.

If CAPCOM is remaking BioHazard 2, I would hope for new and more in-depth sub plots, expanded areas (prerendered), the ability to walk and shot simultaneously, new unlockable modes/upgraded 'old' modes (4th survivor, etc.), upgraded (but not entirely new) music, and last but certainly not least, BioHazard 1.5 as an unlockable bonus.

Of course, one could only dream.
                    I'm a blackstar.

No it was simply ported to the Cube.

On the subject I'm on two minds about a REmake. I don't doubt Capcom can pull off a strike a la REmake and I would no doubt by it but my reservations are, like outlined in other posts above, once we get REmake2 would we be crying out for remakes of 3, CVX etc??? I can't help but feel that Capcom should concentrate on giving us 6,7 etc instead!!

Btw, LOVE the idea of Resi 1.5 being included as an unlockable bonus feature.

Anyways, suppose we'll have to wait for the announcement..
