Well, I better see 8 spinoffs in between that time. 3-5 of them are bound to be gems. Right? RIGHT??
You know what? Fine They don't have to develop resident evil *6.* They could just release an unrelated RE:Sub-title and and and...classic gameplay for one release...new gameplay for another...a mercs spinoff title...game bending DLC...guh...guh-
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Who's to say I won't die in between 4-8 years? The world's a strange place! Everything's so bright! Why is everything so bright? It...it feels different!

Well I guess I will be playing RE 5 online for a few years. I was hoping that 6 would be coming out for this generation of consoles but I guess not. Anyway by then my kids will probably be into video games so I will have an excuse to play them. If 6 does come out, I would like to see some new main characters but have people like Chris, Barry and Jill also included in support roles. Maybe they could be the heads of BSAA and give you orders. Playing as Jill or Claire again would be fun but please no more Leon. He can do his overtime will Ashley and never be heard or seen again.

They better release some substantial DLC for RE5, if that's the case...
Honestly though, as long as Capcom keep making other great games (Dead Rising 2), I can wait a long time for RE6. Eight years does seem a bit excessive though. I think what Capcom are effectively saying is, they're going to wait for the next generation before making another RE title?Last edited by Henry Spencer; 03-25-2009, 03:19 AM.

To Capcom's credit (and I can't believe I'm saying that) it would have been very easy for them to make RE5 in the last generation putting it out within 2 years of RE4 running the exact same engine.
I know RE5 is technically not that seperate from RE4, but the game does have enough changes in development technology. If RE6 is going to overhaul the series again they're going to need a few years for sure... there is no way it'll be more than 4 years though, Capcom shareholders won't allow that happen due to the sales of RE4 and RE5.
It's only when Capcom franchises start really being oversaturated and the sales are dwindling horribly that Capcom gives them some breathing space for a few years before releasing an entirely new game in the franchise (see Street Fighter or Mega Man as examples). That said, if Darkside really horribly bombs as people are expecting then it maybe the last spin-off/remake we see for quite some time...Last edited by Rombie; 03-25-2009, 03:21 AM.

I always envisioned RE6 to be released on the current generation consoles. I honestly believe there is still endless potential with the gaming technology we have now, most of which hasn't even been thoroughly used yet. It's almost insane to think otherwise. I mean, look at the progression of REmake, Zero and RE4 on the GameCube.
Of course, Kawata isn't suggesting limitations with the current technology (although, obviously there are some), but really, eight years? I'm not buying that, man.
I don't mind waiting that long for RE6, but seriously, to justify such a long wait, RE6 would have to be so incredible that everyone would explode or something.

Well, this isn't a shock. I don't think any of us really expected the next game anytime soon. This is the trouble with the shiny new games...they take longer to make, and more money too. Ah well. So long as Darkside Chronicles doesn't turn into a game revolving entirely around the adventures of Leon S. Kennedy and they don't mess up the story so badly then it shouldn't be too bad.

Dot, have we got 8 years of material to pad out the RPD dispatch?

I was hoping that they would re-use and tweek the RE5 engine, to make another one (like most developers do), within 2 or 3 years (or sooner)...
Usually the hard work, is starting from scratch on new hardware. They could make another similar game much faster than 4 to 8 years. It would be a shame just to use what they have created, only for RE5 (even though a lot of the ideas and game play were taken from RE4).
However, he's talking about a "numbered" game. I don't mind that it could be 4 to 8 years before RE6 but I hope we get some RE spin off games in between.
