Sprites. If they're not going to use this, they'll heavily used LOD to have models in the distance rendered with mere hundreds of polys.

If done properly, it can be seemless as long as the camera work is good. 5 years ago, they managed to cram 50 enemies on screen with nearly pre-rendered quality backgrounds and LOTS of particles in Onimusha 3. Even for a game that old, the LOD wasn't as noticeable as some of the games these days.

Remember two years ago when Capcom licensed U3 engine? It wasn't used in any games yet, so this could be it.
      Dark Void uses Unreal3.

There was definitely thousands of zombies in those underground tunnels, but you never saw them all onscreen at once. The area was very dark so the draw distance was fairly poor, which is how they managed to fit so many in there. Come to think of it, those sections of the game would have been a lot more fun if you could drive a car that didn't break down after hitting 20 zombies...

You could atleast hit 100 before it broke, but I see what you mean. Also, shouldn't the car atleast get slowed down from hitting the zombies? I mean in DR1 you were driving trough them literally as if they weren't there.
