  • Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (Wii, and possibly PSP) Announced

The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine reveals the "re-imagining" of the first game in the Silent Hill series. Titled "Shattered Memories", this is most likely the project Climax Studio's are working on for Konami. The article states.

“The characters play different roles, things don’t necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions. You still play as Harry Mason, you’re still looking for your daughter, and you’ll see familiar elements, but they’re all twisted to betray your expectations.”
More quotes from the article can be read at the link below.

I'm really not sure if I want this to happen. SH1 is something specific, something that's very hard to recreate, especially by a non-Japanese company. Also, why do they want to go around and screw what is established as a canon right now? Why not making completly new game instead?

I HATE APRIL 1ST NEWS: IT'S THE DAY WHEN INTEGRITY IN JOURALISM GOES TO HELL. Look a IGN's "Smash Bros. Extreme" joke. It's just major stupidity.

But if this is real... I'll be a happy man. Seriously.

This is real. However, if a new (and American) studio is going to remake something like Silent Hill, I prefer it to be totally different. I look forward to playing this game and being surprised. Apparently the game doesn't feature combat either, as you'll be running from enemies for the entire game. This is an interesting design choice and not one I'm entirely kosher with yet, but the implementation of such a mechanic I think rings that the studio recognizes where to put resources in regards to a Silent Hill game, and combat should not be a priority.

I have no doubt it will not be as good or as scary as the original, but I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. If it turns out like, say, how Tomb Raider: Anniversary did compared to the original, I'll be satisfied. I'm not expecting a REmake caliber product.

Last year IGN did a rather believable trailer for a "Legend of Zelda" movie ;).

I'm pretty excited for this to come out. While it is not made by the original team at least the Wii will finally get another horror game that isn't on-rails.

                          It can go fuck itself.

Butchered, AMERICANZ Silent Hill with none of the charm. The original still scares the shit out of me in most cases.

And Harry looks hilarious too. Totally not the Harry I know.

Considering the combat in Silent Hill has always been awful, it's probably a good thing they've removed it completely.
