Butchered, AMERICANZ Silent Hill with none of the charm. The original still scares the shit out of me in most cases.

And Harry looks hilarious too. Totally not the Harry I know.
If it is Climax doing this then the studio doing it is in the UK, not America... so this is more "ENGLICANZ" if you want to be exactly correct about it.

While I don't like the look of it, at least they're being honest and saying it's not a remake or expected to be ultra-canonical, it's an altered retelling. Mind you, every game to ever do that - with the exception of the Remake - has done it horribly wrong... and if it is Climax they'll get the chance to mesh the game more with Origins (and this also probably means movie references and that paint-peel effect too) in an attempt to make the game the "real story."

Sigh.... nothing good will probably come of this, but hey... it's not like the Silent Hill series has sold exceptionally all that well in it's past few games.

      more details :

-You steer Harry with the control stick

-The Wii Remote is used to aim the flashlight "This is one of the things we dreamed about when the Wii controller was first unveiled, and it's every bit as effective as we imagined."

-The developer wants the game to be as immersive as possible. "When you want to check on something in the environment, for example, you simply fix your view on it rather than press a button, and instead of text appearing on screen, Harry comments vocally." (MARl0 note: This sounds really awesome!)

-Streaming environments that completely eliminate load times

-The static noise comes out of the Wii Remote now. It also acts as your cell phone. "Just as we're starting to feel sufficiently uncomfortable, the Wii Remote rings and nearly scares us out of our seats." "There's no response when we answer this particular call, so we hang up and try the first thing that comes to mind: dial 911. An emergency dispatcher actually picks up, her voice emanating from the Wii Remote speaker, but she can't hear Harry and eventually hangs up. Looks like we're on our own."

-Combat has been completely removed from the game. "Instead, you have no choice but to flee, which proves considerably more terrifying."

-Once the monsters see you, the chase is on. "Holding Z button makes Harry get the lead out, and during the getaway, you can barge through doors, climb over fences, jump through windows, and so on. You can even barricade doors behind you with a bookshelf or whatever else might be handy. The static gets louder as the monsters close in, and while Harry is running, you can look back over his shoulder. Watching these abominations leap over cars and crawl along the rooftops as they relentlessly pursue our hero had us on the edge of our seats." "To be clear, these chase sequences aren't quick-time events; you have full control over Harry and can choose whichever path you see fit to his destination." "The monsters will take alternate routes to try to cut you off, and they'll use their numbers to flank you whenever possible."

      - "Shattered Memories is about as far removed from a typical remake as you can imagine. It takes inspiration from the original as the foundation for something that feels like a true evolution of the series."

HERE are scans of the entire article (9 pages). I must say, this looks very ambitious and interesting, but I still don't like the idea of messing with the original SH :/.

It sounds interesting, but given the differences between Siren and Forbidden Siren I don't like where this is going. It looks too much like a series reboot to me. And if it's a reboot that almost certainly means a simplified, easier to explain story. Hell, just a remake suggests that. And the mind screw of a story was always the best bit! I can't say this gives me a good feeling.

scans confirm that this game is indeed being made by Climax Studio's. So, yeah psp/wii confirmed i guess.

Those are the same scans I saw (mentioned in the topic in the SH forums). Clearly not fake, or else thats a lot of work to pull off for little reward.

I still think this would have been a better idea as a new title and not a "re-imagined" version of the original.

It now occured to me - wasn't SH1 placed somewhere in the 80's? Back then they didn't have phones with touch screen :/. So are they changing the timeline too?

Least I can now write this bullshit off as non-canon, unless Silent Hill 3 now takes place in 2026 or something.

I'd say they certainly know how to word stuff. The opening text in the article really speaks my language :p

"This is a reimagining of the first Silent Hill. It's no a remake or a port. That's an important distinction. It really feels like a new game. Think of it like what they did with Battlestar Galactica. The characters play different roles, things don't necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions."
The personality profile stuff sounds really awesome. Makes me think a bit of how charisma/intelligence/wisdom may affect things in games like Fallout 1-2, Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, etc... also seems like it's heavily based off of the requirements for the different endings in Silent Hill 2

Also love how it seems like besides some pop up messages and the target reticular from the Wii Remote, the game appears to be entirely HUD-less (actually, I hope you can even turn those things off to make it 100% HUD-less)

The radio static that comes from your cellphone/Wii remote seems like it's lifted out of the Camera Obscura (but will there be a distinction between friend and foe?)

Im actually really excited about this game, as to be honest I lost interest after Silent Hill 3, the series got stale, and completely lacked any originality so these new changes and the personality profile and your experiences and expectations manipulating the game scenario are welcome to me, the lack of combat and having to hide/escape enemies and confrontations is also welcome as I can't recall a silent hill title where the combat was actually any good.
And the methods of manipulating the wiimote for various effects *torch, phone/static etc* is pretty ingenious too I might add, i'll actually have to turn the volume up on my wiimotes now as I currently have them on mute.
