  • The Darkside Chronicles "Talking Evil" Blog - "Reimagining Leon"

The director of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles has updated his weekly blog with a new entry entitled "Reimagining Leon." In this entry, he discusses how he and the scenario writer, Shotaru Suga, whose credits include Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eureka Seven, Darker Than Black, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil: Degeneration, are trying to use The Darkside Chronicles to show the motivations behind Leon which led him from the Raccoon Police Department to the United States Government.

It sounds like they are going to make Leon's personality more like RE4 or Degeneration, and not like RE2. Fear.

It sounded more to me like they're just trying to reconcile his personalities from 2, 4, and Degeneration rather than outright replacing one with another, which I think is actually pretty nice.

        But what do I know?

I have to say I'm still excited about this game. They had me at RE2 and the first two trailers despite this kind of reassurance coming from these interviews.
Overall they are facing up to the blatant lameness of UC. They do seem to be taking it seriously and if that makes for quality storytelling and character
          emotions..all the better.
Until I can have this delivered to my Wii, It's going to be a looooooong wait.

I already know what Leon's motivation is... Girls. He's such a douchebag. I wish they'd made it possible to run off high ledges in RE4...

He screamed in fear over giant spiders in the newer trailer.

A few more moments like that and I'd be happy.

Not too surprising. Leon passed for a human being in 2. It'd be nice to see more of that, I agree.

I think what there getting at is that leon is going to mature from our rookie cop to our super agent and that they are trying to to show us as naturally as possible how the events of re2 caused this chain reaction, along with quite possibly a deeper backstory of his life even its only in files. Yes im assuming there keeping the files, like they did in UC.

                          That scream made my life.

But re: the subject at hand, I admit I sort of went :? when I read that, but overall I am not too worried. I think if anything, his RE2 persona will still be intact (I hope they know how much we all love it), but they will keep in mind where Leon is going from there - they didn't know where they were taking his character all the way back when they first made RE2.

IMO Looks promising, lets hope they dont fail in this one. In another note, I just inform myself of the 3D vision technology Nvidia made -thanks to the RE5 new-, It would be pretty cool if they somehow implement that technology on this title. Id absolutely pay for seeing zombies coming right for me in 3D :3.

This entry confused me, I guess I'm not as well informed as I thought because I always figured the epilogue in Nemesis was what lead him to his decision to join the government to ensure Sherry's protection? Did Leon's epilogue have any impact on his storyline at all then?

And you didn't like the file collection? I thought it was nice little scavenger hunt like addition.
