Well, I think there are three possibilities -
The events of Gaiden are canon, and the end enemy is a brain eating parasite absorbing Leon's thoughts through his while lurking as his hair.
Brainwashing to make him SuperAwesomeAgentLeon involved the removal of much of his personality, instead replacing his personality with witty one liners personally written by the President.
His training at Super Agent Ninja School gave him a great deal of confidence that when combined with the determination to fight these kind of things and to protect people have lead him to a calm and unshakable personality while giving him a bad sense of humour.

I know. It's the one I actually believe happened. I just think the way it was implemented in 4 was a little off. There's no secret agent school I know that can take away every emotion but sarcasm. I admit, Chris in RE5 did seem to have, 'And they shall know no fear' rule in effect somewhat as well, but not as badly as Leon.
There's a big difference between professionalism and, 'Hmmm, a 25 foot giant. Is this the time for a steroid/small penis joke?' I know, he never actually did that, but I was damned well expecting him to.
Personally, I thought they got him somewhat closer to the mark in Degeneration with the wise cracks vanishing. I suppose you could wall paper that detail in a few ways, such as he finds zombies/G-Mutants scarier (don't we all Leon, don't we all) or that his behavior in RE4 was the result of being freshly trained and using humour to cover his other emotions, such as fear.
But, unfortunately and most likely, it was to make him cooler. Which really didn't work so well with so many people.Comment

Like others... when I heard Leon yelp/scream in the trailer, I knew I was buying this game. I will pay money to see Leon not be a total dick. XD And he even sounded... dare I say... frightened! Like he should! Our rookie cop is back! <3

I'm not looking forward to playing this game one bit. However I am looking forward to seeing some new cut scenes and hopefully some decent story's, think that's all I can hope for in an on rails shooter. I don't understand why they choose on rails again I mean was Umbrella Chronicles a huge success? It's almost lazy think I'll wait til the price drops and pay a quarter of what its worth cause I think they are only putting a quarter of their energy into it.
Also don't know if it's been discussed but did anyone notice when Leon say's "Lets stock up" then Claire say's "Huh?" then Leon say's in a sarcastic way "The Weapons!" Lol what the hell was that about.Comment
