Believe it or not but Leon in RE 4 was well received. It was RE 4 that made him a "star".

Possibly. I'd argue not within the fan community, but you may well be right about the newer fans to the series. Although I like to think even those who prefer the newer and more action packed gameplay still don't like the terrible one liners.

The detractors just tend to be more vocal about it, which is usually the case.Last edited by Archelon; 05-16-2009, 01:43 PM.

From what I've seen it seems to be the majority, but I'll certainly and happily admit I don't visit that many websites. I assumed the half dozen or so I've looked at/lurked on/etc would be a fairly accurate guage for this sort of thing, but if folks like Leon, good for them. I, personally, find the RE2 and Degeneration versions the best (bar bouncing back from being shot/pimp slapped by a G-Mutant they're more believable to me) and intensely dislike Leon's attitude and actions in 4, partially because they make sure you never feel scared. If it's so bad you can make a sarcastic comment then I need be terrified.
I know RE4 Leon has his fans, and more power to them. I just happen to disagree, and I thought the majority of the old timers did too. Eh. No huge issue if not.

I don't mind a focus away from Claire, mostly cause I never bought the idea of an average college student being so proficient in weapons, and defense and survival strategies. Knowing how to shoot a gun is fine, but behaving and reacting like an actual member of STARS? She should be in the Air Force now following her brother's footsteps, not college.

Yeah, all the ages are hard to swallow, but for some reason, its easier for me to accept a young 20-something as a trained elite going through zombie invasions than it is for me to accept a 20-something with minimal training doing the same.
A little background on Claire would be nice. Maybe she did plan to go into such a career and that's why she's so good at what she does. But who knows, because we never really learn about her motivations. After they're done "re-imagining Leon," they should do the same to Claire.

Those are her motivations for the immediate situations at the start of her games and I agree, they are simple. But that doesn't tell me how she can survive in a zombie apocalypse as well as spy agents, police officers and STARS members. Where is she coming from? Its just not known.

Then again, this does not explain how she reacts like a seasoned professional, but HEY. Just throwing that out thereLast edited by YamiYumes; 05-17-2009, 02:58 PM.

You've got me there. I'd LIKE for them to explain those, but at the same time I think it's simply a case of "suspension of disbelief". I think will find out eventually, though. Perhaps one of the blogs will address that aspect of her character.
