  • Darkside Chronicles Kotaku Preview

Kotaku have put up a new preview of The Darkside Chronicles. They praise the game's tight controls, sharp graphics, and co-op gameplay as some of the high points. They also claim that it feels more like an interactive horror simulation than an on-rails shooter. Darkside Chronicles is scheduled to release this winter.

The game certaintly looks better than the Umbrella Chronicles in every single way. I will definitely be picking this game up when it comes out this winter.

I just hope this doesn't end up being overhyped like Resident Evil 5 was. Everyone was going on about how it was more horror, and drawing parallels between it and the original games, and it turned out to be more action-oriented than 4 was. =/

Difficulty: When the developer says that the game's going to be easy to play through it's not a good sign. True, Kentaro Noguchi said that if you want to take down all of the zombies it's going to be a challenge, but I'd rather survival be the challenge.
This left me a little disappointed, though I guess I can't complain, considering so much of Darkside Chronicles has me excited. But, Umbrella Chronicles was so easy to get through, and it barely felt like a challenge, so I'm at least hoping DSC has a tinsy bit more difficult. I suppose the shaky camera will add to that, but I'm crossing my fingers there's more of a challenge this time around.

                      Eeeee!

As for the difficulty thing, I wonder how different the general layout is going to be as opposed to UC. Cause UC, especially in some parts, could be quite challenging if you weren't paying attention: missing healing items, getting hurt. Getting to a checkpoint without healing and a low health bar and having to deal with something semi deadly somewhere between that checkpoint and the next. DSC seems like it's going to be longer, chapter wise. So I wonder how they're going to set things like the checkpoints up in regards to that.

The shaky cam view is going to be amazing though. From the videos alone, some of the parts look so intense. I cannot wait to actually experience that myself. I also like the d-pad thing and the co-op. Especially in the "saving your partner from SURPRAISE ATTACK" area.

Everything about it looks great, it's going to unfortunately make UC look extremely archaic, but I suppose the devs needed to do something with a tight budget.

The only thing that's grinding my gears about the game is they are makeing it more easy that is not good now im going to have to play the game on hard because nomal will be a joke.
