Resident Evil : Archives Gets Reviewed

Eurogamer have put up their review of the Archives re-release of Resident Evil for the Wii. They gave it a respectable 8 out of 10 and praise the older style of gameplay as opposed to the recent shooter heavy releases. They don't talk much about the wii-remote controller options and mention it as support, rather than an enhancement.

YES! Just goes to prove to everyone that the classics are better, and that RE5 is crap.

I really hope the does well in sales. If it doesn't then people are morons or RE5 has turned them off the series.

Man reading this review makes me get all giddy and exited, i wanna go play Remake and the other classics again right now.

Going by your opinion about reviews, Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the best things ever, and I know you don't think that.

Anyway, I guess it's good to see it getting a high score. I assume it wouldn't get many good reviews with it simply being a port.

I reviewed it recently too for the website I write for. Thankfully, I didn't give it a full 8 like they did, but I did score it rather high. The Wii control schemes to be honest feel a little awkward, so it's good that you can use pretty much any controller with it to compensate. This is a draft so ignore any spelling / grammatical errors! >_>

Graphics 8.0
While the graphics may be largely pre-rendered, the settings for Resident Evil are displayed beautifully. Character models are very well detailed although there are some little niggles that players may notice on higher end television sets.

Gameplay 6.5
The gameplay does follow previous Resident Evil games released before Resident Evil 4, but still involves an interesting mix of environments, puzzles and character interaction that no other survival horror game has done just as well. Those wishing to extend themselves can easily go through the files throughout the game to flesh out the game's backstory.

Audio 6.5
The soundtrack in Resident Evil isn't entirely composed music, but still manages to convey a perfect sense of isolation, hopelessness and safety in the right places. It's just a shame that the voicework brings down the quality of the overall project by a significant magnitude.

Lastability 7.0
Multiple post-game unlockables, including very different modes and unlockable weapons based on specific criteria really extend the Resident Evil experience. In addition, the dual storyline mechanica essentially requires two playthroughs of the game to fully understand what went on.

Tilt 9.0
Being an immense fan of Resident Evil I enjoyed revisiting the original game, and the best version of it. The game still performs much better than others in it's field and features some of the best graphics on the Nintendo Wii. A brilliant game filled with a nicely constructed atmosphere.

OVERALL 7.0
It's hard to recommend Resident Evil to players who have already played it and own it on the Gamecube, as this is essentially the same game. That being said, if you need an excuse to run through the game with some new and interesting control schemes (albeit awkward), this is probably it. Those who aren't fans of the series but looking for an introductory level title will probably find what they're looking for here, but be warned it can be rather difficult. To this day one of Capcom's masterpieces, and it thankfully still remains something that only Nintendo fans can sample (and deserve).

I think Remake is still the best RE game to date even though I do love RE5. I just started replaying my gamecube one and was considering to buy this version. I'll pass. Seems like the 480P doesn't do anything.

Yeah i know that, but this is like the only time i have ever agreed with a reviewer, so I'm gonna have fun with it.
