  • GameInformer On RE: The Darkside Chronicles

GameInformer has a new article for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Kawata stated that there will be a different tempo compared to Umbrella Chronicles. In Darkside Chronicles, you don’t have to shoot all the zombies now in order to proceed the game. Instead, it’s a lot like a handheld camera, with players sprinting down halls, looking up and down and turning around frequently while facing off the monsters along the way.

Kawata also said that players will also get to explore parts of Raccoon City that were glossed over or only partially shown. When asked to compare with RE5, he said that RE5 was a little more action based, and RE: DSC might be a bit more scary—especially for beginners.

On another news, Capcom have a recap on their offering at PAX 09 tomorrow. Besides RE5 PC edition, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will also be featured at their booth.

There's just so much intrinsically wrong with this sentence.

    - Comparing RE5 (full control) to DSC (limited control)
    - Saying DSC "might be a bit more scary" than RE5, which most people agree is NOT scary whatsoever
    - Justifying previous comment with "especially for beginners."

So in other words, DSC will also contain "fear you can forget," or not even notice at all.

I thought I read wrong too. I re-read and make sure that the article really said that before I post the news.

RE5 was a little more action based than DSC... and a bit more than any other RE game for that matter. No surprise there.

Nice move by Capcom on making a new Okami game. Maybe it will mark the beginning of a new franchise.

I dunno, I like that they're trying for it. I actually think the limited control would help if anything with the scare factor. Because you're not controlling it. IE, I remember first playing RE3, coming back from the second floor of the police station, hearing the ~sound~ as you walk down the staircase and the cease in music, indicating something was going to happen soon. I didn't know what, so I stood on the staircase for a couple of minutes going "oh God something is going to happen" and being able to collect my wits for when I finally started moving again. (I was like AHHH. And doubly so when I first realized Nemesis could not only follow you through rooms, but SHOOT YOU WITH AN EFFING ROCKET ;;)

With DSC, when it's constantly moving, you're not going to be able to do that and prepare yourself.

Of course, I take all the scare talk with a grain of salt anyway. Because DSC could very well have the same scare potential as the older games. The older games which are 10 years old now. However being 10 years older and used to the formula of how games like that work, I think the playerbase as a whole wouldn't be as scared as they'd be if DSC came out when RE1 did.

I thought the point of the game was to shoot the zombies?

DSC keeps sounding more and more of an interactive movie(that's not really fun to play), and less and less of an actual game.

Holy crap! Then it will play just like Metal Gear Solid 2 (or 4)! YES! close to an hour and a half of intrusive cutscenes and some gameplay here and there if we're lucky.

He's saying that the game doesn't work in a way whereby you're forced to eliminate all the zombies in a scene before continuing. Instead, the style changed to that you're forced to defend yourself against the monsters in a scene before it change to the next.

Haha. The difference being part of MGS's draw is indeed the dubiously long and over-the-top cutscenes. Another difference is that its not a rehashing on rails segements of gameplay. (Shudders to think about the day a MGS rail shooter is released on the Wii)

Ah, ok. That could be a good thing. . .

“Obviously in this game, Leon and Claire are moving together,” says Kawata. “However, at some point, Leon and Claire go down in different directions."
I know it's been assumed by others that it would occur, is this the first confirmation that Leon and Claire are still gonna split up at some point? How is this going to work? Is it going to be exclusive to single play or maybe Leon gets shot and so Claire and Ada go off together? This is intriguing.

Maybe it will be like the Wesker scenarios in Umbrella Chronicles? Whenever you played those with two players, there were "two" Weskers.. It was.. Odd.. XD..

**EDIT** Whoops, forget that part about Ada. Kei_M already mentioned that. Half-asleep, sorry..

Maybe~ I wouldn't be surprised, and personally Claire + Ada team up would be so intriguing and fun >D; ((We've got allot of Sherry-service lately, let's see some more Ada please!))

In the Twitter accounts Claire mentions "Leon fell into the sewers. Now I have two men to rescue..." So that is probably the separation point.

you raised a good point. They have mentioned about how you'll see Claire and Ada at the same time, but never talk about Leon and Sherry seeing each other. Claire + Ada teaming up might be one of the fan services they are referring too. Besides, this gives Claire and Ada a little more exposure.

It's bogus how they are doing this. Claire and Leon and Jill and Chris were always apart in their respective games, and these two games just make it seem out of proportion, a bit.
