  • Resident Evil Movie Reboot Planned?

Paul Anderson had said that he envisioned Resident Evil: Afterlife as the beginning of a brand new trilogy, a reboot of sorts for the Resident Evil film franchise, but it seems that the actual reboot may be saved for the fifth film. According to website Bloody Disgusting (via IGN), the fifth film, tentatively titled "Resident Evil Begins" may in fact be a remake of the first film:

"While it's a long, long, long way off, the idea is to redo the story of a special military unit who fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating creatures after a laboratory accident," says the site.
With reboots seemingly all the rage these days, this news may not come as a shock to many, though it certainly seems like a rather unusual decision when one considers that the first Resident Evil movie is still fairly recent compared to most other franchises that have received a reboot.

You would think so, but look at the Hulk and Fantastic Four...those were made within the past decade and have already received reboots (or are planned to).

I just wish they'd boot Paul Anderson.

You know, I had completely forgotten about those, but you're right.

The mistake here is reincluding the insane super computer. Get rid of that and voila, you have a film that could be called Resident Evil. Keep the bastard thing in and don't even bothered.

PS: I know the *something* Queen (it's been a while) appeared in Umbrella Chronicles (I think, again, it's been a while) but she wasn't insane and was a very small bit part. My point is, keeping the whole insane computer aspect sucks.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how that premise is any different from the original one...

Don't think that's going to get any better. It seems like they don't know what to do with the plot anymore and got the brilliant idea to make a remake or a reboot.

I think a blood vessel just exploded inside me. Oh wait. . . that was just my brain reacting to the SHEER STUPIDITY of such an idea. If it didn't work the first time, it damn sure won't work a second time.

He just can't. . .leave it. . .alone. . .Why must he continue to murder Resident Evil at the cinema for the next 10 years? A decade was bad enough around, but two?

Oh God. I wish they would just make a CGI movie of RE1 "Degeneration style"

Well put. Not only does the Resident Evil series need a new writer and director (trust me, they need both new), they should stay more closer to the games. Why can't a reboot be with Chris and Jill in the mansion, and then eventually lead to Umbrella's hidden laboratory? Why must they do this stupid underground hive thing that is controlled by a super computer?

A reboot might actually fix this movie crap. Like maybe he'll start making movies about resident evil. The Dark Night (Batman) was a reboot, and that movie was awesome, it saved the Batman franchise.

Batman Begins was the reboot, The Dark Knight was the sequal to the reboot.

Speaking of Batman (I know this is off-topic), but I liked Batman, Batman Returns, and Batman Forever. I thought those movies were great. It was Batman and Robin that was really horrible, and laughable.
