  • Resident Evil 5 Directors Cut Announced (PS3, Motion Controlled)

Capcom just announced Resident Evil 5 Director's Cut with PS3 motion controller enhanced gameplay. It'll be out spring 2010. No word on any possible 360 release so far. We'll keep you posted as more updates emerge.

    *Update*

IGN's liveblog have some more on this announcement, they say that there is new content in the game "requested by the fans" and that Capcom will tease the new content at their own booth later.

    * Update 2*

Capcom Unity's twitter is updating from the Capcom booth and they confirm that Chris and Jill will be together in the new content for the Director's Cut.

    *Update 3*

A promo shot from the Capcom booth has been leaked, the shot shows Chris and Jill in their BSAA costumes from the flashback scenes. This all but confirms that the added scenario will be the Spencer Estate, unless specified otherwise.

Directors Cut Promo Image. Thanks to Mr. Rod for the image.

Looks like it was true, and there will probably be a new scenario as well.

Yeah...just saw this in a liveblog. Kind of disappointing...but Sony has something real to push their motion controller now.

        YEEEEEES! Wait... NOOOOOOOOOO. I don't have a PS3!!!

Mmm... a damn good reason to get one, like the Wii (I bought it to play RE: UC).

A "Director's Cut" a year after the original released, with possibly new scenes and motion control? Sorry...but I really think its a waste, and does seem like Capcom is simply milking their product. No, thats not necessarily a bad thing, but if there was so much they wanted to add to the game, why didn't they just do so originally? The only thing I'd really be happy about is if the death scenes were made to be a bit more gruesome. I'd actually like someone's head to fall off their body have having a chainsaw cut through it.

I'm hoping that the new Jill scenes alluded to by Patricia Ja Lee and the option for motion control aren't the only new 'additions' to this Director's Cut. I like the idea of it, and I hope that they come through with something big and not just some half-assed attempt at milking the product for more money. They need to justify another purchase.

Stop for a moment. Think about how they hyped Versus up. Then remember why you hate it. Half assed attempt indeed. Hope for the best all you want, but don't expect it to completely blow your mind.

I just hope the extra content (sans motion controls of course) will be available on Xbox 360 as well.

While I think it's a little too soon for another release (the original game, and the PC version already), I do really like the additions it's going to have. The motion control will be pretty interesting, and gives me a reason to go buy that.

As for the new scenario, well. I hope it's something that will be released as DLC as they were hinting, rather than having to purchase a whole new game. I'll probably be purchasing it anyway, but I'd be just a touch bitter if they did something like that.

Takeuchi says the motion-control-based game has a real direct control feel. The game is titled Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition. In addition to the motion controls, the disc will include extra contents that have been requested by a number of people. Details on the extra content will be shown in a teaser movie at the Capcom booth later today. The motion version of RE5 hits in Spring.

                        Exciting!

I would never. Not after the disappointment that was RE5...without even getting into Versus.

So basically its gonna be just like RE4 Wii Edition? Nice Holding the DS3 one handed isn't as cumbersome as you might think. I think it would work rather well. Its kinda interesting though that this will seemingly be PS3 only. The additional things requested by fans should be nice. Practically everyone was asking for a Separate Ways with Jill in it, so thats probably what it is ;)

One can only hope that they add new enemies / sections which also take it back to a creepier time in the series. They could expand on that old Umbrella facility..Chimeras and such ;(

I'm sure it will be for the 360 too, Microsoft said they'll be showing Project Natal with various games, including Capcom...
