RE5 Director's Cut TGS Gameplay Demo and Trailer Leaked
Ok, back on topic! I sent GameTrailers and 1up's gamevideos a mail to upload the direct feed version (or at least a clearler cam version) of the trailer. I NEED IT
Serious question, but how do you justify calling a game mediocre without having played it? Particularly when a lot of the feedback from those who have played it seems to be largely positive?
Or is it just another case of more on-rails hate?
Far from it. I'm one of the few people on this site who ever has anything positive to say about REUC. I bought a Wii for that title 2 years ago, and despite it being a generally lackluster, "mediocre" affair, I still enjoy it to an extent.
From what I have seen and read about DSC, it is more of the same. All of the video footage looks exactly like any other on-rails shooter. And there is only so much that can be achieved using the format. So I am not expecting anything above "meh."
I could be wrong, of course.
But Mark Bozon from IGN played and review the first REUC, giving it a 7.9 score. He also has played DSC at various stages in its development, giving it a scathing preview a few months ago, before recently stating that the South American level has changed his opinion to an extent. But throughout his 9/24 hands-on preview, he kept saying how the game wasn't really fun until the South American portion. Not exactly "largely positive."
He also recently reviewed the Dead Space on-rails title and stated:
"Even after the impressive TGS showing of Darkside Chronicles on Wii I'd put Dead Space far above Capcom's shooter in the audio/visual department, and the fact that the game can push engaging environments, smooth animations, and full dismemberment to boot is the true icing on the cake."
Now, I know that IGN is not the be-all, end-all of game reviews, and that DSC is still about a month-and-a-half from release, but I'd say that it is pretty much close to the final build. I am not expecting it to score higher than Dead Space Extraction's 8.5, nor lower than REUC's 7.9. Perhaps that range is "above mediocre," but as I said before - on-rails is a limited format for truly exciting gameplay.
I didn't mean to sound so matter-of-fact. Mainly I was trying to imply that people seem to bash RE5 for the nostalgia aspect of the additional scenario in "Alternative Edition," while ignoring that REUC and DSC are completely cashing in on nostalgia for a full price tag.
This excites me, yet, makes me sad at the same time. It excites me to see Kirk and Dave kicking ass, but it saddens me because I know we'll never get anything like this.
Posibly the best news I've heard from this TGS, I can't believe Capcom actually heard what people wanted, I hope it is as good as I imagine it will be... lets hope it has enemyes in it, I'm thinking some... zombies... hunters maybe
I'm not saying these are bad people. It just freaked me out a bit the passion of loving or hating some characters. That's all!
They just need to seriously mature out of the obnoxious fanbrat stage, that's all. Until they do, they ruin experiences for everybody without realizing it (or caring), with how they act. And I have to disagree with Al though (without going into tl;dr meta about fans like that are and reasoning for hating characters because of shipping and all that ~girly~ side of fandom stuff), as because off of the linked site, it is bad. And I am far from the only person who feels that way.

That's why I don't get expectations TOO high. I do think DSC is going to surpass UC in a lot of areas (especially the retelling part). I think it's going to fall more into the personal preferences of people whether things like the "shaky-cam" add or subtract from it. Just like preferences about on-rails shooters in general, of course.
I hope you're right...I really do, but I don't know what other scenario they could announce.
I could think about some ideas:
1.) A scenario that is a few years back that involves Chris and Jill investigating a city/area/place etc that gives them that tip about Oswell Spencer's location that Chris narrates about during the TGS Teaser trailer, and also when he was explaining to Sheva in RE5 about his missing partner.
2.) A scenario that shows how Chris and Jill formed/and or joined the BSAA. If anyone played Umbrella Chronicles on Wii, the fourth Scenario involved Chris and Jill invading a Russian Umbrella Facility. However, at that time they were a part of another group called the Private Biohazzard Containment Unit. This scenario could show how that small unit eventually became a worldwide unit known as the BSAA. One explanation that would cause the world to see why the BSAA was formed among different countries was because of a viral outbreak somewhere.
I think these would be great scenarios, because it will involve Chris and Jill, which seems to be the theme of this extra content for RE5. It would also add much needed back story for these two characters since technically we have only seen Chris and Jill as "partners" in Resident Evil 1. In 0,2,3,CV,4, and 5 they were either not involved, or it was only one of them involved in the storyline. Yes, in 5 they were both involved, but technically not. You guys should know what I mean by that.
Without a quote to it, it's essentially the same news we had reported enough times last week anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing stemmed from N4G to be honest...and i'm not just basing that on how poorly written it is either.
Thanks Rod! It has an even better impact now that I can make out (for the most part) the dialogue and that it doesn't have moonlight sonata playing throughout the entire trailer.
I just wish it didn't seem as if the camera person had Parkinson's...(wow, that is just a non-politically correct statement)
