  • Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode Promotion on the EU PSN

Capcom and Sony have announced a one week only price cut for the Resident Evil 5 Versus Mode DLC available on the European PSN Store.
"Zombies" aren't the only things being slashed in Resident Evil 5 as the Downloadable Content (DLC) Versus Mode, originally priced at £3.99/€4.99, is now available to download for a special price of £2.39/€2.99 across Europe. This offer will only be available until next Thursday, 22nd October 2009, so for this extra offering of spine chilling horror visit the European PSN Store and get downloading today.
While PS3 games are region free, the DLC isn't, so buy it only if you have an European or Australian version of RE5.

Even at that price, it's still not worth it.

Wasn't it confirmed that the Versus Mode already existed on the game disk, and that Capcom were charging people just to 'unlock' it, rather than download it?

I here you on that, I would be surprised if anyone was online to play it.

          No.
Only the main menu entry for it exists in the game, along with possibly some incomplete bits 'n pieces (such as the additional audio, iirc).
The menu data, updated netcode, game code (rules) and trophies are part of the third(?) title update for Resident Evil 5 on the PS3 (the 30mb(?) update patch). The DLC itself is an unlock key, but it wont work unless you have the data from said update patch (the idea of putting DLC data inside a mandatory update patch is part of how some publishers work around some rather annoying bandwidth fees on PSN.

The 360 has all the DLC data in the DLC archive (but it still requires Title Update 3(?) to work, if memory serves me right)
