  • Capcom Bringing MT Framework to Wii?

Japan's Nikkei Industrial daily reported today that Capcom is bringing to Wii its multiplatform engine normally used for PS3 and Xbox 360 games.
It hasn’t mentioned in this press release if the engine is called MT Framework, but, eh, it can't be enything else!

What could does this mean? Not only every future 360/PS3 title using the MT Framework engine may potentially get released on the Wii too, without the need for ground up recreation and the use of other engines. It could also mean we'll be seeing some of Capcom's previous HD titles, like Lost Planet, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, ported to the Wii too.
Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition is possible, the question is now, when? Capcom?!

I never will have imagine they will bring that to the Wii. That should make a RE5 Wii port easier.

RE5: Wii Edition: "Looks like shit, plays like butter".

"Looks like shit, plays like shit" would be more correct

Hey, RE4Wii played really well. I imagine RE5 Wii would play well enough (while looking like crap) but probably wouldn't have co-op.

I don't think so, as LVL100 Merchant stated, RE4 Wii Edition was a breeze to play, the controllers fitted quite well. I can see RE5 practically with that same controller scheme. Look at PS3's Alternative Edition.

Yeah, the problem is Co-Op. Knowing Capcom we might get "Kijuju Chronicles"

Then it wouldn't be RE5. I don't think they're going to port previous titles since they'd have to cut them too much to work.

I don't know about this news, I have mixed feelings. The mutli-platforms PS3/360/PC games on the PC already suffer the limitations from consoles, so having the Wii on the mix, I don't think developers would want to have 2 maxed out versions and another limited one. Definitely a Wii2 is needed.

And therefore, it would be a better game.

Don't forget that Sheva would still be there (removing her would require redesigning the story and few levels)... but this time, she would always be controlled by AI; no co-op = no friend that could take control of her.

Or "Look at me! I tried to make a funny comment without thinking it through and now people are making me look rather stupid".

Everyone knows RE4: Wii Edition played like a dream, that's why people want to see a Wii Edition for RE5.

This should be worded differently. Nothing in the link suggests that EVERY future 360/PS3 game (no love for the PC? ) will get a Wii version.

It's a purchase for me, then!
                            Mass production? Ridiculous!

@Sunglasses: Slightly reworded the newspost title + edited your text a little. As it is indeed still speculation whether or not it's MT-Framework (though, it's very likely it is) and there are no titles confirmed, so all just speculation so far.

Anyway; I know people certain places have fun mocking these news with pictures of Resident Evil 5 running without various rendering options enabled and such. That's not even remotely close to a proper indication of what a title on the Wii would look like.

*This is where I'd give random samples of last gen games and tell you to honestly tell me whether or not they look better than the aforementioned pictures.*

As far as what this really means; Wii development will still require it's own graphical assets, but may still share a lot of assets with its HD cousins and the internal clockwork of the game may be the same (or mostly the same) as what's found in the HD releases.

It probably means MT-Framework will now include console specific arguments and conditions for the Wii, automatic processes for replacing various features and options, and that a lot of the code won't require extensive rewrites to work on the Wii.

Good news as far as multi-platform games goes, as it opens the possibilities for easier creation of a similar experience on all platforms without the need for much additional resources other than a small team managing the Wii specific assets. This of course works the other way too, future Wii titles may be better and more easily upconverted to the HD platforms... which is probably why this is being done, to allow for easy conversion of Wii titles to Natal and ... whatever the heck Sony's calling their new pleasure device. (Maybe we'll see a PSP version of MT-Framework too? We're now seeing Invizimals using the PSP Go!Cam as a solution for motion controls)
