  • Resident Evil 5 Director's Cut Confirmed as DLC for NA/Europe

The voting is done and Capcom have decided how to bring Resident Evil 5's Director's Cut content to the States and Europe. Both the PS3 and 360 will get the additional content as DLC come spring 2010.

And here’s an example of Capcom Unity in action: based on your feedback, in North American, European and Australia territories, Capcom will be making the new RE5 content for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 available as downloadable content. You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff, just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you’ll be ready to roll in Spring 2010 when we make available new Resident Evil adventures (and some other things we haven’t told you about yet) for you. Keep that in mind when thinking about selling RE5 back or handing it off to a friend ;)

Makes Japan getting an entire new release kinda moot if all the additions can be brought over as DLC (for a much lower price) anyway.

So how will they integrate the motion controls into the PS3 version? I was under the impression that the reason they were releasing it as a new packaged product (aside from making more money that way, har) was because of the new motion controls. Would downloading an update or something like that be enough?

OH FUCK YEAH. This makes me SO happy.

All that's left to wonder is the pricing...hmm...$14.99? $19.99?

LittleBigPlanet's motion controls will also be just a patch. I guess we can chalk Japan getting a full release to greed.

I take back all bad things I've said about this. As DLC it's a fantastic addition, and not forcing me to buy another disc makes me insanely happy. Thanks Capcom!

I'm glad it looks like they're at least considering releasing it as a packaged product. Call me old-fashioned, but I just prefer having a physical copy if for nothing more than a backup. That's not to say I'll be buying both the physical and DLC versions, mind you. If it comes bundled with the new motion controller, I'll definitely buy that.

I'm going to guess more Mercs stuff, which will hopefully include new characters and not just maps.

Josh and Kirk. Bam, two new Mercs characters right there.

Wetlands, Seaside Village, areas leading up to the Monarch Room. Boom, three new Mercs maps right there.

...and these could be easily recycled with minimal effort. They're ALL already in the game.

HUNK really shouldn't be all that difficult, but I don't see them doing an all-new Leon on RE5's engine.

As fantastic as that sounds... You're asking too damn much for lazy capcom!

Yup, import from RE4 and polish.

I guess it might be physical for PS3 + Dildo motion control. But for 360 I see it as DLC as Natal is not showing up in time... So if by that time I get a PS3 that would be a perfect excuse to get a physical version.
