I 100% agree Resident Evil 5 was a big disappointment I've been a fan since Resident Evil began in 1996 and I will say this and I've said it more than once Resident Evil 5 is the worst in the series not includeing the spin offs.
I really hope this hits Capcom really hard so they can see what they gone and done to the series they are going off track.

Ok, so after RE4, which is considered to be one of the greatest games of previous generation, people had gotten really high expectations on what RE5 should be, but the game hadn't fulfilled them. So... whose fault this really is? The game's or those who got really hyped about the game?

RE5 isn't the greatest game ever and it's nowhere near as breakthrough as RE4 was, but it's still a damn good game. Yeah, the control scheme might feel a little outdated, but the whole gameplay is build around that control scheme so that really shouldn't be a problem.

Could the game be a disappointment to some people? Yes. Can it be a "biggest disappointment of 2009"? Hell no :/.

On the other hand, Capcom built it up to be something it wasn't. Remember 'Fear you can't forget'? Most of the advertising, including the little live action clips, focused on how terrifying it was.

meh.... Ok RE5 was a bit disappointing but still a fine game, it doesn't deserve to be called the biggest disappointment of 2009.
And I can't believe they put it alongside Bionic Commando (!!!!!!), chocolate and shit aren't exactly the same thing

Plus, the most hilarious thing is that they think 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Woverine are the biggest surprises of 2009....

          Come on! ahahaaa

          @Darkmoon
Mikami himself did the same thing before the RE4 release describing the game as if it was one of the scariest game of all time, i still remember his "Don't pee your pants". But ehi it' just marketing after all. We can't blame them.

I love threads like this, people getting utterly outraged at someone else's opinion. Just brilliant.

RE5 was a very good game, but nowhere near what it could have been. Big disappointment indeed.

I think I can hear Carnivol's heart crushing just a little because of this thread. Resident Evil 5 beta images>what we got, but it's still a great game to play. It's just not as we thought it would be.

The pee in your pants was for one of the betas (I believe it was beta 2) not
for the current final/completed version of RE4 we got. It looked very dark
and full of tension compared to what we got.

The only thing I prefer RE4 over RE5 it's the atmospheric setting...I guess
it's because it's in Europe as opposed to RE5 which takes place in Africa.

It doesn't matter, Mikami promised a scary game and then we got another thing.

I do agree about the RE4's atmospheric setting, not scary but still better than RE5.

Eh, I don't agree simply because I loved Resident Evil 5. I don't care what that guy thinks. *shrug*

No way!. RE5 is way better than RE4. Despite the story, it did pretty well. I think the characters were belieable this time, and the gameplay was better than the previous one.

I think RE4 was a fun game and all, but just that... i don't know why it is considered to be the best in the series, because that's not true and it won't be true. RE4 fails in everything else. Poor story, poor character dialogues, etc. I think RE4 is overrated.
We knew that it was going to be like RE4, so i don't can't fathom why would we get upset of the story... when we had no story at all with RE4. Come on guys, it might no be the best game of the year (RE4 was because it was something "new" to the genre) but it is at least enjoyable... RE6 will do better. Actually, I doubt it... because the series have been going down lately, with ports, and recycled stuff... Capcom needs to think deeply about what to do with the series.

It is just like Stu said... it is a good game.. but not as it was expected to be. That's all.

X-play can't have been busy on the gaming front this year if Resident Evil 5 and Bionic Commando were their entries for biggest gaming disappointments of 2009

RE5 is a great game. Bionic Commando is a good game as well. Sure, they are far from perfect, and they may have failed to meet expectations in some areas. Massive disappointment is for dummies who have too high expectations and live in their hallucinated dreams instead of looking up for real information about the games they are waiting for. :p

The game is great as a game, as a RE game is a big disappointment, but we saw that coming.

The main reason im mostly disappointment with RE5 is there's too much action in game and it feels like Capcom are cutting back on the horror I remember reading in a interview this time last year and Capcom clearly said the game whould get scary near the end which turns out to be fulse I just hope with RE6 they cutback on the action and bring the horror back into the series before it's too late
