Not really saying that RE 4 messed up the overall storyline as it had been fucked up before. I think the problem was that RE 4 came out before they properly closed out the Umbrella storyline. If the story of 4 was held off for a latter game like 5 or 6 than I think it would have been a great way to reboot the series. The only thing that 4 really fucked up concerning the storyline was the fact that 5 was stuck using the las plagas.

I tend to see Resident Evil 5 as one of the overall bigger disappointments of the year, in fact, for quite some time.

First off, controls. For one, I have no problem with Tank controls, they fit perfect in the classics and were fine in Re4 as well. My problem with them in Re5 is that, they severely limited enemy AI, as well as dumping down environments, to the point it became a linear shoot fest of shambling uninspired enemies. Again, no problem with tank controls, but they have to be used in the right circumstances. Re 5's enemies came no further in advancement then they did in Re 4 , a real shame when you have games like Dead Space pushing the survival horror genre into exciting prospective areas, and even using progressive controls. No one wants nor needs for Resident Evil to become a generic shooter, but controls alone can not change a game, it was much more then that which made Re 5 a disappointing, action shooter game.

The game just played it way way too safe. Linear level design ( save assembly place) just led to a boring routine of what Re 4was, and in many instances not even as well designed. The smoothing of the interface and what not is welcome, but in no way a saving *****.

the story, was much lacking in the attention department. Its not that it was a bad one, but for a game that was aiming towards wrapping up such a long series arc, just around an hour of cut-scenes, most of which consisted of Enemy or boss attacks, as well as short taunting scenes from one shot villians, it just was not given enough time nor emphasis.

The earliest trailers, as elusion said in page one ( 2005,2007) showed off a much different and ..advanced looking game. What we had was a game that put Re 4 in a mad max driven attempt, even being less scary, survival, and horror then Re4 which is no small feat, it just turned out lame.

i pretty much agree with what selfishgene has summed up, fits perfectly with whta im thinking.

        New does not mean good!

Why do people are stuck with the idea that a game has to be different everytime in terms of mecanics or story related to be any good? Old or resused styles can be good too.

Of course a game at least has to have something New... but people should not depend only on the NEW aspect of things. A game does not need to depend in innovation EVERYTIME to be good! The same applys to various things in real life.

But this is something that appears to be happening everywhere people are becoming TOO demanding, and i think this is a problem in society nowadays.

As for 5 it did have a better story far more reaching and tied much more loose ends than 4 ever did!
O f course it did not tied everything but it did tied important ones indeed! Like for example: It answered where did Spencer found out about the virus in the first place and with it began the nightmare...

Plus REAE will help consolidate things even more with the extra storyplot which obviously provides a wider perspective on things.

Old doesn't mean good either. There were a few things I'd have liked to have seen, such as more horror elements and more exploration, and tougher puzzles. But, honestly, if they'd kept the game play from RE4 I'd have have been happier. Not happy, but it would have been more fun to play. As it was the co-op killed the gameplay for me, and gameplay was the only thing the new Survival Action style had going for it. An interesting, but not especially well done, story was not enough to safe it. It still wasn't the most disapointing game this year though.

The pacing. Other than that is was pretty on level with the other games (maybe not quite as good, but close).

But it does this with the new gameplay, a blasphemer.

Obviously, it's a double edged situation for new and old.
Either way my point is: The nowadays need for people to want different stuff in an almost constant manner and i'm not talking just about games even though it does apply, and from there disatisfaction by expecting and demanding to much occurs.

In other words consumers/players should get a grip on themselves for their own good and wallet lol
