  • Rumor: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Sales Less Than 50k

In an blog post talking about Capcom titles and their sales expectation, The Darkside Chronicles was reported to have sold less than 50k in North America. While no numbers is available for Europe region and the title yet to be released in Japan, it will uphill battle for Capcom if they want to meet their worldwide sales projection of 800k.

Other titles in the post are Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (NA/Eur project: 900k, actual: 400k), Monster Hunter 3 (worldwide project: 2million, japan actual: 1.1million) and Bionic Commando (project: 1.5million, actual: 670k)

It's a shame about the sales of DSC... I think UC had the quantity (more levels and stuff) but DSC has the quality. The game is a much more polished, better looking and overall superior game.
Maybe the sales will pick up a bit more over Christmas.

The positive: Capcom will get the message that they have made enough on-rail shooters for now.

The negative: RE5 sales figures are through the roof! It's sold millions!!! Capcom will get the message that non-stop, run and gun action, with online co-op is what the fans want. We are almost certain to get more of the same next time (I do like RE5 but there's many things I didn't like about it).

I think my only hope for a new single player, old school survival horror RE, is in a new spin off/side story game of some sort.

Jun Takeuchi is the one who said RE6 will be a reboot. I think he'll be directing.

when Walter Disney was around, Disney movies were actually good. when he was gone, the quality fell with him. when Mikami was around, RE was good. as he's not around, the quality fell with him. sooo, yeah. easier said than done.

Yeah, because Mikami didn't create the template to the game you all hate so much that is Resident Evil 5.

Seriously - you can't condemn Takeuchi to something that Mikami did first, then praise Mikami for it.

Mikami was a producer (just like Jun!) for 90% of the series. He only directed RE1, REmake and RE4. Considering the other games are still fucking amazing, I don't see how the quality "fell" with him in anyway. Also, RE5 utilized RE4's gameplay, and that is the only reason you hate it. You do realize it was Mikami who decided to USE that gameplay, right? Its not Takeuchi's fault for utilizing something that proved to be more popular than Jesus Christ.

Anyway, I personally can't have any sympathy for Capcom on the shitty sales of DSC. Thats what you get for settling for sub-par nonsense while ignoring what the fans actually want. Just give them remakes in the form of the REmake on the Wii, they will buy that shit up.

Didn't TUC sold like 1 million? I would expect the same kind of sales for TDC...

But UC was said to be "a test game" - to see whether it's worth investing in making another RE game for Wii, hence why more people were willing to buy the game, even if that was just an on-rail shooter. Of course, that's a bullshit argument (and unfortunately, more companies are using it - see for example Dead Space Extraction), because RE4 Wii, which was just a re-edition of a GameCube game with added motion controlls, already sold about 1 million copies.
It's just like News Bot has said, fans do not want an on-rail shooters anymore or any other spin-off experiment, they just want a normal RE game. And it's time for Capcom to understand this.

I'd strongly disagree with that. Sure, there's a rather huge pile of average/sub-average content these days, but take for instance every single release between his death and up to the release of the Hunchback of Notre Dame... I haven't really been keeping track of much Disney stuff since Mulan... Last I saw at the cinema was Lilo & Stitch, I think.

What I do think has changed is the general "feel" of a lot of the animation, but that's not because of Disney's death, but rather the change from hand drawn cell animation to digitally drawn stuff and digital coloring... of course the lack of tracing of scenes first shot in live action and the general drop in recycling of animation cycles/sets from previous movies also plays a role there.

And let's not mention any of the stuff from The Disney Afternoon

And still counting. The US launch sales for TUC were supposedly 121k, though. So even TUC had a better start than TDC, but like most quality Wii software, it should hopefully have steady monthly sales.

Wii games tend to have long sales legs and sell smaller amounts for a long time compared to most 360/PS3 games which tend to have larger opening weeks but continued sales do not last as long. Is what happened with UC, will likely happen with DSC also.

They will very liekly reach the 800k target, unless they had some time limit on that figure.
