  • Alternative Edition Content Was Originally Part of Biohazard 5

PS3Center have put up details of an interview from this week's Japanese gaming magazine, Dengeki PlayStation. Assistant Producer Mie Suzuki talks about the new content being planned from the beginning of the game's development cycle and it originally being intended to be part of the full game, but getting cut off to improve the pacing of the game's narrative.

They also talk about both new scenario's featuring elements that will increase replay-ability but refuse to go into details. The rest can be read at the link below.

No big surprise here. I think most of us knew that the developers, at some point, played with the idea of including a segment like this in the game. That whole hint of "playable flashbacks" from an interview long, long ago was clue enough. I'm glad they went back and revisited the idea for DLC. It may not give us the insight we're looking for (i.e., more information on Spencer and so forth), but it's something, and I'm looking forward to it.

I wouldn't of liked it if they had been part of the main game. I agree that it would mess up the pacing and it coming out as extra works just fine. Can you imagine if the game started with Lost In Nightmares, assuming you didn't watch any trailers or spoil yourself, you start out with Chris/Jill in the Spencer Estate...leads up to how we all know it ends...and then the game starts with Chris and his new partner. I am getting bad flashback of Metal Gear Solid 2 and how you only play as snake for like an hour and then are thrust into some new hero.

Or it could of happened in the middle of the game, but really...that would be one really long flashback and would probably feel out of place. However I am sad because now messege boards I frequent will be flooded with people who are butthurt that they have to pay for something that should of been in the game to begin with.

I never did get that one...

"Oh, how dare you make us pay for something you wanted to place in the game but time, money or something stopped you. Your money grubbing scum!"

"Fair enough, we won't bother releasing it then."

            "Uhh, hang on a moment..."

"No, no, we wouldn't want to take advantage. No extra content for you, whiny boy."

Now, there's a big difference between this and, say, charging for a key to unlock contents already on the disc. But being charged for a few additional bits is better than Capcom making us buy the game all over again. Or just not doing anything. Sure, my wallet would like it better if it was free, but Capcom has shareholders to please.

Doesn't this then contradict the shenanigans they pulled awhile back asking fans what they wanted for DLC? I mean, predictably they knew most would cry for Jill, especially since some of her more...rabid...fans are pretty goddamn vocal (and not always in a good way). So really Capcom is just giving us what they already had planned, and fan input didn't have much effect at all.

Not that I care too much, as all the DLC so far has really piqued my interest, I just think it is comical in the way all the events up to this point have transpired.

Anyway, just give me the DLC, Capcom. And take my damn money. Bastards.

I wonder what they are doing to increase replay value then? Already have time leaderboards.

I'm gonna take a guess at somethign simple like alternating enemies or allowing different costumes (like other characters).

Not really; they might have planned to put a flashback chapter into the game before, yes, but in the end they've canceled it. Fans' feedback had told them, that people really want to play such scenario, therefore Capcom actually fully implemented it.
Just because they've planned it before doesn't meant they would do and release it if it wasn't for fans wanting the scenario.

I don't see how this would have messed up the pacing of the game. It could have been unlocked after beating the game. It's is nice that we do get to play these scenarios and hope it adds something to the game.

Can I just say (I apologize if it has already been said, didn't check over other posts like I should have) that nobody would have cared, because last I remember; everybody was complaining about how RE5 felt really short. My friend who knew nothing about the games watched me play it once and was all '... Dude, that felt like five minutes' I'm pretty sure people wouldn't have had too many feel-bads 'bout the pace.

I think its both. Chances are they knew they were going to do some kind of DLC extra content considering how much of a hit the Seperate Ways from RE4 was. They may have had part of it done, but a good part of it was only finished or touched up recently. I remember an interview from a couple weeks ago of the VA for Jill Valentine stating in an interview she had recently been called back to do some voice work for the added content.

I have no problem that I had to wait for this content, in fact its better this way. If this stuff was on the disk and unlockable with the retail version of the game, chances are I would of blown through it already and been bored with it. Now my interest in playing RE5 again is rejuvenated. The only thing I feel didnt make sense was the charge for versus mode. It was a stupid game mode and it really didnt add anything new.
