  • Gold Edition IGN Review + Aussie R18 Game Protest

    IGN have put up a review for the Gold Edition of Resident Evil 5 giving it an impressive 9.0 out of 10. They cite that the extra content doesn't make the package any better or worse but still review it favorably. The full review can be read here.

    Also, gamers in Australia recently held a protest against the banning of video games rated R18+ dressed up in zombie make up. A gallery of pictures from the event can be seen here.

    I don't live in Australia, but good for them for sticking it to the government like that. I think their policy on that is just outright shitty. Good to see people care though.

      Good for them. My girlfriend has been telling me all about the situation, and if there's anymore protests when I visit Sydney you can be sure I'll be backing them all the way.

        Yeah, pardon the language but it really is absolute bullshit when you take into consideration that parents have been finding out just recently that many of the games rated at R-18 outside of the country have been slipping by as MA-15 rated games or purely banned (refused classification, which is banned for retail but can still be imported, however that could change soon).

        From letters to other Attorney-General, some have supported the R-18 Rating whereas others have refused comment - Atkinson has been the most vocal (not to mention, outlandishly rude by making statements that anonymous messages are created by a spambot and therefore do not exist and other such nonsense - quite frankly I think he's fallen off his rocker, as his standard argument is that video games would simply encourage violence.

        When you think about the factor, that some studies have shown that it can help prevent it by a means of a way to vent within a virtual reality in contrast to the standard "Murder, person played video games - therefore video games are the cause of a pre-planned attack" when it has been forgotten that there is such a thing a mental illness and simply blaming such acts on a general product and/or piece of art (depending on your perspective of the industry) when people have put a great deal of time, effort and money into creating a story, or their own re-imagining of events or even historical facts laid out in a interactive field that can help get information across, that wouldn't be collected in general mediums of viewing a film or re-reading general information).

        *Shrugs* Sorry for the slight ramble, just had to put down how I felt on the matter. ;

        Of course, Atkinson is currently under investigation for other issues so I personally hope that he may be barred and the R-18 Rating can be put into place as it's been needed for quite some time. >_>;

        I believe that there is another zombie walk happening sometime soon, I hope that I'll be able to participate in it and continue supporting the removal of the ban and/or the classifications to be amended from the useless, piece that was written up when video games were just starting out in the industry overall.

        Overall, I love seeing the Sydney Zombie walks - always fantastic, and even better to continue protesting the old legislation.

            Seems to be getting pretty bloody close to it.

            I hope that they either stop him, or he loses his seat to G4C.

              The South Australian state election is tomorrow!
              Hopefully this buffoon loses his seat, or at least the government gets kicked out, and a new Attourney-general is appointed.

                Crap, I forgot the SA was tomorrow...

                I bloody well hope that he loses his seat, especially with the Gamers 4 Croydon group providing quite informative information on the matter to people (not to mention the corruption investigations on himself and his office).

                *Crosses fingers and hopes for the best*

                        Good luck Ene, and everyone out there that has to put up with this bullshit.

                        Has anyone considered that maybe violent video games help let OUT anger and PREVENT people from hurting others? xD

                          I had already mentioned that within my first post in the topic.

                          Of course, if Atkinson doesn't lose his seat by the results of the vote today then he probably will due to other tidbits that have been publicly brought to light more-so recently, such as his funding to a group that compares video games to being addicted to smoking and the end result being worse than Cancer! (Not to mention other things, such as investigations over corruption and so-on).

                          Anyway, wishing some good luck to the other candidates - especially Matthew for G4C, good luck mate!

                            My apologies for the double-post (I forgot to post this when it was released), a little thing on the Australian piece - Atkinson has officially stepped down after still winning his seat in the election (although, there was quite a good sway away from him by the voters), however he will still retain it until the next election.

                            (Sadly, however hopefully the next to take up his chair will have a tad more commonsense than Atkinson and that the other Attorney-Generals' will support the implementation of an R-18 classification for the video game medium, and pray that Conroy (wanting to have a compulsory internet filter, enforced at the service provider level - initially, to block child pornography and other disgusting/illegal things blocked, however due to the list of content being blocked - Google has critisized the filter, and that it may also legitimize censorship such as what China and Iran have been doing, which could prevent access to currently banned/refused classification items such as Left 4 Dead 2 (uncut version) which is another act of censorship that Australians do not have general protection from due to the Constitution of Australia lacking a Bill of Rights, only some "implied rights" have been partially allowed however the majority have been brought into High Court on the matter have been unsuccessful and sadly, this has been going on for a while in and outside of video games, with Atkinson being quite vocal on the topic).

                            My apologies for the double-post, ramble on the censorship (which also impacts classifications, and ratings) for such things as video games and if this post doesn't make sense. ;
