  • RE : Afterlife Related Interviews

Shock Till you Drop have put up a new interview with Jeremy Bolt, the producer for Resident Evil Afterlife. Bolt, amongst other things, envisions a future where the movie and game series meld together.

Similarly UGO have put up a new interview with Milla Jovovich with some more information about the movie including some tid bits on the development of Alice's character. It's interesting stuff so check it out.

Thanks to Dark_Chris and NemesisCV for the heads up.

    Zombies evolving? Oh god...
Why do I have the feeling that this will be RE5 movie edition? (With 300% more Alice).

While I agree with the statement, this is news. It's rather unprofessional to put your own opinion into news articles, unless it's an editorial or something...

Other than that though, I'm still pretty excited for Afterlife.

Jeremy Bolt is so full of bullshit is untrue. I've watched all the extras on every RE dvd {not sure why tho} and every interview or commentary with Bolt, his opinions and views on RE come across as so false.
He just doesn't have a clue about the source material he is dealing with. That's the problem with this whole franchise. Instead of trying to carve out an interesting narrative, they just look at the superficial things such as wow, the executioner was cool, lets just stick him in Los Angeles without any explanations...and er, instead of incorporating Las Plagas into the storyline lets just have the T-Virus mutate and have the tentacles come out of their mouth like in RE5.

This wouldn't be so bad but they genuinely seem to believe that they have done something wonderful with these movies, and that's the irritating part.

Chairman Wesker was the coolest villain of the series!

          Fuck off.

            Spoiler:

Agreed. I thought the first movie was decent, but IMO they went extremely downhill from there. They took a franchise that was built upon the essence of survival horror, and turned it into a full-blown female rambo matrix flick with 90% action (which the games have also started to pick up). I'm actually looking forward to Afterlife, just for the sheer curiousty of seeing the executioner and Wesker.

Both interviews provided some decent feedback. And while I feel it's still not going to save the movie from being terrible I at least have this feeling it might not be the worst in the series.

First, I did have a chuckle at the RE5 comment. I like RE5 and have no problems defending and criticizing that installment, but I usually find that most fans I talk with save for the occasional exception seem to favor both RE2 and RE4 out of the series. But that's just my impression as I haven't seen Capcom's sales charts or RE reviews in some time. I chalk it up to "Team Leon" having a bigger fanbase than "Team Chris" (yeah, I went there). I just figured that Leon would make his way into the series at some point before "RE5" ever did. But Anderson always surprises me with each script he conjures. I could list his random acts of RE basterdizing, but most of you know them already if you post here.

I decided not to set myself up for disappointment if Sienna/Jill doesn't end up in the movie. I know about Milla's tweets, but even so. If people expect her like they would expect Sherry or some other character showing up in the games then it's best not to. And while Capcom never actually confirmed Sherry for RE5, Milla's implications would be the ultimate stab in the back for me if they were false.

When it comes to Bolt's interview there's not much to say. We've heard what he has to say about each title thus far in previous interviews and commentaries. It's expected to see him take pride in any direction the film moves towards. He's the guy who likes it all, but I at least appreciate from a film perspective that if they're going to deliver trash it might as well be fresh new trash each time rather than the same thing done over and over again.

As for Milla in general based on her interview:

Oh, that is fantastic news. Really. Hopefully the character can be somewhat redeemed.

I don't think Leon can make it into the series considering he died in Apocalypse.
I didn't read Milla's interview thinking it wasn't worth it but if she does lose her powers that can make her character somewhat better. Still won't save the movie from being horrible imo.

I personally can't see his envision of the movies and game melding into each harmoniously... well I really don't even think there is much they can do to save the movie series. The damage has been done and soon I think they'll turn into straight SyFy/Sci-Fi channel movies if they keep making them.

Only if you're taking that typical text filler written on the rest of the newspaper as some sort of "movie canon" which isn't even supposed to be seen to reflect on Leon.

Does one really believe that Leon wouldn't be in a future RE film on those grounds?

Well dammit if they don't try. I was very much against the homages done in Umbrella Chronicles. Sure the laser hallway in RE4 was stupid, but man...the one in UC was a near rip off and actually served no point in the course of the trail except to provide a QTE sequence that landed you in a dead end.

Does anyone have a screenshot of that newspaper? Does it say how he died? Just curious.

During yesterday’s press conference, Captain Hendersen
noted that Officer Valentine had been suffering from post-traumatic
stress disorder due to the recent death of her partner, Leon
Kennedy. "Jill Valentine is one of our most gifted and intelligent
police officers, but she just needs a good rest right now," said
Captain Henderson. "She made wild accusations of monsters
living in the Arklay Mountains. I think this leave of absence will
give her time to clear her head," Captain Henderson continued.

That's the "article" from the newspaper, nothing is said except he died.
Anyway I don't see why they'd need Leon in the movies. They already have the RE cash cow, don't need the second one. Now they have Claire, Chris and Jill all in one movie.
I wouldn't bring fans into this discussion as I don't think any fan of the four main characters wants to see them in one of these movies again.

"Their head will literally explode – will flair open, the jaws will come here and this is very much part of the new game, Resident Evil 5. We were very, very impressed with the Resident Evil 5 game. It's probably the best game since the first game."

WOW....just wow. This guy has obviously never played a resident evil game in their life. This is almost as idiotic as that first jerkoff that make the comment "It wouldnt be Resident Evil if there wasn't a chainsaw guy" Ive lost all faith in humanity

"I very much wanted the action to step up a notch with this one, especially with the 3D. I once experienced a... I don’t know what it was but that amphitheater that you sort of swooped down into. It was like wow you really kind of feel like you’re flying into it. I was like 'I really hope, in the future, to see something like that.' So we have, in this one, me flying a plane, which is going to be really cool because you get this feeling that you’re flying through things and flying low through things. Also a big thing of mine was doing a great jump. Especially in 3D because you have this feeling of diving down like in an elevator shaft in a skyscraper or something. So he wrote this really great scene during the clone sequence where my clones crash through this plate glass window and get into this needle dive of like 50-stories at Umbrella headquarters and they found this amazing place. It’s the university here [in Toronto] where they have those white floating pods, which are actually like coffee stands, so that’s like the main Wesker Umbrella headquarters. So I do this amazing needle dive with two clones shooting at me. . . I like to see playback, like in every film, so I can make adjustments and on screen it’s more clear to me what doesn’t look right. So I saw the playback and I realized when I go skydiving there’s this wind hitting you."

This is exactly whats wrong with these movies....notice how many times Mila says I and my character and i thought it would look cool if i did this. Youre character is what ruins the moive!!! Do you not realize this???? You single handedly destroyed the last 2 films bc YOUR character has to have ridiculous super powers that can do triple flips in the air while riding a motorcycle, Survive being impaled, apparently is a ninja now and lights crows on fire with her mind. But now she looses her powers? Come on man
