  • Some Dead Rising: Case Zero info + a new Dead Rising 2 trailer

Kotaku's got a little bit of info on the Xbox 360 exclusive "Case Zero" prologue for Dead Rising 2!

Case Zero kicks off in the desert town of Still Creek, introducing Dead Rising 2 protagonist Chuck Greene and his daughter, Katie, as the two deal with a zombie outbreak in the isolated town. Set two years after the Willamette incident of Dead Rising and Frank West and three years before the game show zombies of Dead Rising 2, Case Zero, Capcom's Keiji Inafune promises, will "bridge the gap" between the two games.
A slightly curious note about Case Zero would be this:
"I have always had doubts about doing a demo," Inafune said. "Everyone seems to want to do them. Rather than create a demo for Dead Rising 2 I wanted to set up a different area and let people see what the game play is like.
Sounds an awful lot like what yours truly kinda wished "Lost in Nightmares" for Resident Evil 5 would've been released (as a stand alone demo/prologue to Resident Evil 5). I guess this type of approach would definitively be interesting to see how turns out and if more companies will follow. There have been individual/similar cases in the past, and I think no one would complain if there would be more of them in the future too.

    ** UPDATE **
Additionally, there's a new Dead Rising 2 trailer to feast your eyes upon over at GameTrailers.

Agreed - Jill's death would of had so much more impact on the player had Lost In Nightmares been a playable prologue to the title released for free or whatever.

I still don't understand why they would make this prologue/demo exclusive if the game is multi.

Experimental project + Capcom's had lots of Microsoft love this gen (and vice versa) + probably somehow related to the fact that the original Dead Rising was a 360 exclusive and this appears to be filling in a blank that's probably only relevant if you're familiar with the first game.

I'm pissed off that this is a 360 exclusive. Capcom has really been catering to Microsoft this generation... I wish Americans didn't embrace that console so much. I remember how much everyone made fun of Xbox (original) back then and Microsoft's attempt to enter the gaming market.

I'm excited for Dead Rising 2 but bummed PS3 gamers will probably get the poorer version (just like how RE5 was slightly worse on PS3).

Dead Rising is not 360 exclusive though.
And it's supposed to link the first game to the second, you're missing out on something that leads to DR2 which is also available on PS3. Maybe they'll release DR+ this prologue for PS3 someday but it's still a dumb move.

You wouldn't think it was dumb if it were just on PS3! =/

Hmm? The original Dead Rising is 360 exclusive.

No, it would be just as dumb if they made the same thing on PS3, if a game goes multi everyone needs to have the same chance at it.
And the original DR was ported to Wii, despite being much different.

Edit: The voice acting is a bit lousy and dry.

Question is whether or not we'll get such a fantastic and character defining quote as "I've covered wars, you know".

+Man, I wonder how well the multiplayer will work on a non-LAN setup. I just get the feeling that the mass handling of objects in motion will cause a lot of issues (unless there's just a simple "crowd" system that evt. renders the crowd differently on both screens, but the overall count in the crowd will always remain the same.)
