  • Biohazard 4 PC vs Consoles

Im not sure how this got under the radar but the game has indeed been released. Warez groups already got ahold of it and I did as well. Doing a quick comparison reveals that it looks a hell of a lot better than the PS2 version and thanks to the higher resolution textures and resolution itself but the game still is a port of the PS2 version. It comes complete with PS2 level geometry and models as well as lighting.

Ill do some more testing but you can view the differences below by mousing over the images.

Ignore the difference in brightness, different capture methods were used.

I took a few shots from the first area, they can give you an idea of what the game looks like on a high end PC. 8xAA, Super Sampling and 16X AF were applied. Click the picture below to open fullsize 1680x924 shots. Even at this resolution and these settings (forced via nvidia control panel) the game ran smooth as butter.

Thanks to Orin at Bioflames for giving me the heads up!

Update: Modifying the resolutions is very simple, just edit the SetupTool.ini file. 1920x1080 is working in fullscreen mode ;)

Those textures looks... not so good. :/
Also, it looks that there's really no shaders. I hope that SourceNext will release a patch or something.

Dot, did you encounter any graphic glitches? Because on that taiwan (?) forum, there were few screenshots with handless Leon or not fully textured herb.

BTW. Yay, I finally register here :]

Looks about the same as the PS2 version to me (sans mip mapping it seems), but I suppose the optional controls with other pads is a bonus. I prefered the slightly tighter PS2 controls over the original version's personally, but my only gripe was the audio. I suppose that remained the same if it's based on the PS2 port.

Btw, you contradicted yourself in the same paragraph too there Dot.. looks helluva lot better... then looks a bit better lol.

The increase in resolution doesn't make it look significantly better than the other versions, then again, that's been the case with other PC versions of RE games anyway.

Textures definitely are not the same, Shaders are on the items and some of the doors (but nothing else??).

No glitches here Zombie, Only encountered some slowdown when a fog patch came right near the screen when I had 8x AA on. Thats kinda to be expected though since it happens in most games with smoke that arent built for the pc.

Sound quality is GCN level Dare I say the textures are as well?

One thing Im dissapointed with is the fact that most of the static 2D images werent made in high res for each resolution. IE Leons ammo/health, hunnigans radio, item menu etc.

I saw that this had been released and was coming here to let you know about it, Dot50Cal, but I see that I'm too late. Should've known.

I sure don't. I just saw the release at a torrent site a few days after your post about suspecting that it had been released.

                  PC port is TERRIBLE

Nice screenshots....but dynamic light/shadows were removed from the pc port, and so night time and dark area shots are totally as bright as day, and if you play the game compared to the GC or PS2 versions, you'll see this port is far inferior in immersion and mood. There's much discussion on the gamespot board among hundreds of gamers who are very disappointed at the port.

The "hidden" items are still on the maps (taken at the farm, just after the village)
