Despite the small screen size of the 3DS, I think they should definitely include a behind-the-shoulder shooting scheme just so people wouldn't complain that they removed that option entirely. They just need to make the laser pointer bigger. If people whine that its too hard to play in that mode, then they can just switch to the default one.
I couldn't give a monkeys if it was played by using the power of thought. Is the damned thing got A) a plot that isn't totally riddled with dumb shit (RE4, I'm looking at you here) and something remotely resembling scary stuff?
Bonus points if the game isn't totally linear and has some puzzles too.
Good point. I seem to have thought we were talking about Revelations. In which case, unless this game comes with blocks of free gold, I'll never buy it.

Dumb shit is what fills a lot of the RE plotlines and plot devices. You got Jill running around in outfits that show as much flesh as possible and mouses writing fucking diaries. And that's not even the tip of the iceberg. So leave that dumb shit alone. It's funny shit.
The game needs to be scary? Indeed. But presently the typical RE game designer equips RE characters with as much weapons as possible. Because that's what they think we all expect. Lots of weapons and being able to upgrade them. So we play with characters that are more scary than the damn enemies.
And you take the backtracking away from the old games and you got a pretty linear game.
The previous games had there elements of stupid. RE4 just wove it's whole plot out of dumb, though. It still makes me grind my teeth to think of how awful RE4's plotline is.
With exploration, while there is certainly a best way of going through a older RE game, it's not the only way. Additionally, since there are side areas and such, you don't know what's behind the door. In RE4 and RE5 you do. It's another tool to shoot in the face with a huge gun. It won't be a puzzle, because there aren't any. It won't be a save room. It might be a Merchant in RE4, I suppose. If you take back tracking away it's gonna be linear. You're only gonna be able to walk one way, after all, never return to explore again.
And yes, the heavy weaponry is an issue. One of the aspects I like about Dead Space is most of the guns are actually tools. Even though they're fairly lethal it helps make you feel somewhat overwhelmed. RE games are action titles now, and therefore guns and plenty of them is likely to be the norm. But it's still possible to have enemies equal of the weaponry, rather than flooding the area with idiots. I'm sorta hoping it'll happen like that, but my breath is not held. I admit, it's my own opinion, but I think Majini/Ganados/whatever the hell we'll be fighting in Revelations that are smart enough to wait behind doors to jump you, set up ambushes, etc would be freakier than three times there number in cannon fodder.

You make a lot of sense. But I think you expect too much from these 3DS games. I mean, you really believe that Capcom is going to do anything that strays too far from their winning formula? If anything, it seems like they're going deeper into shooter territory.
However, the director of Revelations, Koushi Nakanishi, has said that he wants to make said game into a real surivival horror game. And has mentioned that there will be limited ammo available and lots of unexpected enemy encounters. So maybe there is hope. I dunno.
You took that serious? Seriously?
You missed my point. But that's okay.

No, I expect more of the RE4 and RE5 formula. It pays the bills for Capcom. Sadly, I do not give a flying monkey shit about the style, and I doubt this will have anything, storywise, I'll be interested in enough to make it a day one purchase, which was why I bought RE5...didn't wanna suffer spoilers. Silly me, then, watching the RE5 trailers...
If they bring back horror, and that is an if you can spot from orbit it's so huge (Remember, both Darkside Chronicles and RE5 were advertised on how scary they were, Darkside Chronicles especially going on about it a fair bit) then I'll be interested. I have next to no hope for anything that isn't linear action, though. I just about think they might add some scary bits, maybe, if it doesn't get in the way of more shooting.
