So for a year that is 12 PSN games, 12 PS1 classics, 24 PS minis and lots of themes and avatars. Those are all on 'rental' type agreement, when PS+ expires you cannot play them anymore, except themes and avatars which you keep forever.
In addition to that you also get (randomly but very often):
Beta access whenever one roles about
DLC to keep forever
Exclusive sales on games
Day 1 discounts on many games
Many other games on the same 'rental' package as the monthly ones.
Completely free games that you keep even when PS+ expires.
Not forgetting the online cloud saving for your game saves.
I think anyone with a PS3 really should get PS+, the amount of stuff you get (even if some is just 'rental') is quite amazing, it isn't crap nobody wants either.
They gave away (to keep) all of Fallout 3 DLC, on PSN that is £40, the cost of a years subscription to PS+ all by itself. They gave away Killzone 3 map packs on the day of release to keep forever too, it isn't just old content they give away but brand new stuff too, be it DLC or full games. Look at the money saved on RE/CV HD alone, four other releases this month all have 20% discounts for PS+ people.
I better cut this post off here before people suspect I have a secret investment in the scheme.
You have some fair points there, I'll agree with you. If you are only a PS3 owner, Plus is a no brainer. If you're a MULTIPLATFORM owner, Live seems to be the better choice. While I'm not totally happy with the fact that I need a membership to play online; I prefer having constant discounts for content that I will own "permanently" (and I quote because DLC is a shady biz), than just having some games I might not like for a month.
But being honest, if money wasn't an issue for me, I would go for both services.

That Discounted price will still be lower that what you paid for the service. You still be paying almost if not the same.
Example:
3 months Plus card ----- 17.99
Both RE games (50% off)--------- 19.99
vs
Both RE games without plus ---- 39.99
So youre only saving like 2 bucks....
Its not worth it in my eyes.
Assuming you're only getting PS+ for that then obviously. But you know... Still have those three months of further discounts, rentals.
I tried the free trial and actually found myself hooked. I was skeptical at first, but that trial alone got me to get a three month subscription until I take my vacation over in Australia. Since then I've been taking advantage of it for most of my future purchases. And now to my pleasant surprise I'll be getting RE4 and CVX half off before the month is out. I guess this was one of those gambles I'm glad I took.
i know its not alot of money those avatars costs but i hate .. that just because they are plus then they get it for free...
its not fair to the rest of us.

Seems perfectly fair to me - they pay, we don't. Paying customers SHOULD get little bonuses like this. And no, I don't have plus, nor am I likely to get it. Although I would have done if I'd known about that Fallout DLC offer...I need to get three of those, I think.

I don't have plus and I think it's perfectly fair, since they are paying for a service.
