  • Resident Evil Revelations New Details

There's an update from Capcom regarding RE Revelations.

According to the developers, the game will somehow support 2 players wirelessly. It will have local, internet play, spotpass feature and the slide pad support.

The first print run of the game will include a bonus dvd. The dvd will contain Jessica's report, trailers and the developers interview. (only announced for Japan region at the moment)

Capcom is also selling a limited edition of the game, which includes a bag and special bonus point reward for members of Resident Evil's Club 96 fan club.

Lastly, the official site have also revealed 2 new characters, both BSAA agents.

Remember when I said that every bit of new information makes me think less and less about the whole "going back to its roots" marketing?

Yeah, still trying to remain optimistic here...

Because a seperate co-op mode changed what exactly from before you read about it? Still the same as before + something seperate.

        + Hunters.

So knowing that the game is bigger than RE4 and 5, Hunters returning, 2 Player online and offline for a seperate mode, and 2 more playable characters, all = a Huge game and more replay value make you less excited?

            Those character designs are dreadful.

Bigger than RE4? I have my doubts about that claim.

Anything with two player online co-op lessens a game's scare factor for a variety of reasons. Obviously the game play and level design will cater to two players. Sure it's a separate mode, but the mode itself is designed for co-op nonetheless. Frankly they could have used that space for something fulfilling rather than another co-op RE. Sounds like they are trying to please everyone they possibly can.

I'm indifferent towards more playable characters. Unless they stay within the game's narrative it won't bother me any. Most of the time I feel tacking on an extra player breaks the game's pace. Steve in Code Veronica was just used to blow stuff up with machine guns for a little bit. But then in RE3 you have Carlos acting taking involvement in the story to save Jill and learn the truth about Nicholai. So it can go both ways. Separate modes and minigames have the same effect. Different characters are thrown our way and they can go from action games like Mercenaries or more of the same as the main campaign like 4th Survivor or Separate Ways.

Hunters are nice though. Throwing in a classic monster seems to have swayed people over already. Kind of like RE5 bringing back lickers. I guess it's a start. I'm curious to see how some of these "zombies" will fare as they've been teasing us with the idea for some time.

You're grasping. Why would you care about the "scare factor" from an ancillary mode, probably just in there for fun? Not like none of the older games had things like these.

Nah, I don't think so. If this was a game designed for a home console, I would agree about the level design trying to cater to co-op gameplay. Because that's what current console gamers have come to expect these days. But this a freakin' handheld we're talking here. And one that makes use of Nintendo's online services plus friend-codes. It would be crazy to base a whole game on that.

IMO the co-op mode is just there to shut-up all of those that would've made a big deal about "yet another 3DS game that offers no online/co-op support". I actually expect that co-op mode to be more like an afterthought. And ppl will complain about that, for sure.

You can't be scared and have fun? Even in a section separate from the main campaign you can still implement the scare factor. One of my favorites was 'Born From a Wish' from Silent Hill 2.

And as far as the older games went there was some action oriented minigames and the like. Even comical ones. Frankly I was more of a fan of the ones that still maintained some scares. But as far as 'going back to its roots' goes none of them implemented any sort of co-op. At its best it was just you and the challenge of surviving. Tacking an extra player is very reminiscent of RE5 in that regard.

You don't have to agree with me. I'm still waiting to see how the game fares and only basing this on what we're shown thus far.

Just there to "shut them up" is why I'm saying they're trying to appease as many people as possible. They were quick to rush out a half assed mercs game for the 3DS just to appease to the action crowd. That in itself has online co-op. As far as home consoles go we have Operation: Raccoon City which will implement 4 player co-op.

The one Resident Evil game that didn't need co-op of any caliber was this one. Yet lo and behold we've got a section dedicated to it. I'm not really pissing and moaning about it. I have no idea what they're going to do with it. But at the same time I'm not exactly going to throw praise its way and applaud its use.

Well you don't disagree with what I said. The co-op mode IS merely an afterthought. And its only an extra mode in the game for you to fool around with. If you even care for it.

And I was replying to what you said about the main game being designed for co-op. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Not from what we've read about the development of this game or even from what Masachika Kawata has gone on record to say about it ("We're focusing on the single-player this time - No (RE5 style) Co-op").

The co-op mode seems something that they added in the last month or two.

RE4 is around 3 gigs, This game is 4GB and the resolution is so low.

Co-op adds so much replay Value ^^ i don't know why you're hating this, it's not like the RE minigames are scary to begin with

Overall, I think you're looking way WAY too much into this, or maybe you just don't want to like the game ^^ You're missing alot of great things that seem so fun I can't wait to play the game.

Lumley and Cetcham, huh? Anyone want to start taking bets now on whether or not these two will survive the first 20 minutes? They're the new DeChant and guy who got crushed by Ndesu!

I too have doubts about this game being "bigger" than RE4, which, for a Resident Evil game, was a long game! RE5 was about 75% of RE4's length, and I doubt this game will even be as long as that. I don't care what Capcom says - I learned a long time ago to take everything they say with a full shaker of salt.

I'm also disappointed with the addition of co-op. Yes, I know that the main game (which is what I care about the most) will not be affected, but it's the principle of adding co-op to something that doesn't need it that annoys me. It's almost as if Capcom fears that casual action junkies will pass over the game if it doesn't cater to them in some way. That's funny - I don't recall them adding survival horror elements to Mercenaries 3D to cater to the classic horror fans of the series...

I'm a firm believer in Resident Evil and co-op never mixing. I loved the Outbreak games, but the co-op in those games was restrictive and not an all-out shooter fest (as well as the games being done in the classic RE style). Since then, we've had co-op in the Chronicles games (which are rail shooters, so I get it), RE5, Mercenaries 3D, ORC, and now this. This series to me has always been about playing solo in the middle of the night and sucking in the game's atmosphere, not blasting zombies or parasites or crab people with your buddies. There are plenty of games out there for the casuals - why did they have to infect Resident Evil?!

I'm really trying to remain optimistic, but when dealing with Capcom it can be pretty hard at times. If there's one thing to love, though, it's Hunters! Yay! I want to be decapitated!

                              Mass production? Ridiculous!
