I love every game in the series. They are all pretty special to me in their own ways.
The top of my list would be RE3 and RE4.
The bottom of my list would be Survivor 2 and RE-CV (I still like them but just not as much as the others).

I gotta take issue with this 'RE4 has too much ammo' and 'RE5 gave you less' business... I think it's completely WRONG.

You're unlikely to run out of ammo playing either game, no matter how wasteful you are. But RE4 forces you to vary the type of guns you use or you WILL run out of ammo.
While playing RE5 I gathered a ridiculous amount of ammo. After nearly every sub-chapter, I ended up with more ammo than what I started with. I was always moving the excess over to the larger inventory. Then I ended up with multiple slots of 999 bullets for some ammo types. I sold huge slabs of ammo because it was useless and I was continuing to get more and more.
Not only that, but you can access the larger inventory at any time and change what you're carrying. Either between chapters or by restarting a check point during a chapter.
Not only that, but you can keep every weapon in the game in the larger inventory and use them/change them at any time.
Not only that, but you can replay earlier sub-chapters at any time and collect more guns, ammo and items... The very first time you play the game, once you reach the wetlands, you have access to an unlimited rocket launcher! You don't even have to fight anyone or finish the chapter. Just pick it up then quit, as many times as you want.

In RE4 you can only carry so much. Even the XL case, can't hold everything. You have to choose what weapons to own and anything that dosn't fit in the case, has to be sold to the Merchant or discarded. There's no replaying of earlier chapters or visiting a personal supermarket, filled with guns and ammo between chapters. If you want a rocket launcher it will cost you a lot of cash and take up a lot of room in your case.

The other point I've seen repeated a lot in this thread is how bad the AI is in RE5. I didn't think it was that bad...
While I preferred the AI options in Zero and RE4, I thought RE5's AI did the job. I never played it with a human partner but finished the game on Pro and got the Platinum Trophy without too much trouble.
But I agree it was annoying for a single player gamer like myself, to have the co-op style forced on me for the entire game.

As for these Gaiden and Survivor remake ideas: Why must everything be REMADE?! Why can't people just appreciate things for what they are and enjoy them as they are? Leave them alone!!!
Let modern day developers ruin new things instead of ruining old things!

Partially agree. We need new things to bitch about (), but I really think Gaiden needs a makeover at least for a DS game. Why? Because it has no room on the Resident Evil canon; if you tweak it here and there, you'll got a game that could tell us the fortune of Mr. Barry Burton; which many people want to know (I think he opened a restaurant in Williamette, Colorado, but that's just me ).

I hated Gaiden so much that I never finished it.

got to say resident evil 2. it comes together real well and the puzzles are fun and its not too hard for new comers to the resident evil series.

i totally agree to both parts of that.

Particularly when it hugely contradicts the previous post!

I'll throw my response to this thread into the battlefield ~ Remake, my vote for best survival horror incarnation of Biohazard. Regarding those Remake fans like myself that have been critical of RE5, I am beginning to philosophise that without these very different installments, the series would get very stale, very quickly. RE5, in terms of storyline has actualy far more to do with past Biohazard installmemts than RE4, although I experianced more horror moments in RE4. RE5 is a big game, and needs patience & time to fully appreciate, I am hoping.

Resident Evil 3. Nemesis was intense and made my heart pound every time he was nearby or chasing me. Darn it even with infinite ammo he still scares me!

Resident Evil 4 after. Leon was awesome, storyline was interesting, only bad part of R.E. is... yeah you guess it, Ashley

                    • Well that was interesting.
It's like Bizarro World since MoS and Alexia were always anti-RE4 when I argued with them. That was always story-related though IIRC. So I guess it fits.

Anyway, Resident Evil 3 is my favorite game in the series. Probably because it was my first and I also haven't played it in about 8 years. Still I remember having a lot of fun with it and until I get a hold of another copy and have it fall off its pedestal, it's my #1.

I'd rather have an annoying character following me who I can tell to hide in a dumpster so I can handle all the enemies myself than an annoying character who wastes all my ammo, screws up my accuracy ratings, and heals me with a FAS when I'm at 90% health.

Yes. I think it's what set the storyline apart from the other RE games by attempting to connect it to the "real world." I clearly remember Saddler's line "No longer can the United States think they can police the world..." I'm not saying that the storyline was great or anything, but I found Saddler's plan to be rather interesting.
                            Mass production? Ridiculous!

Well, yeah, you got me there. Either way, I always look forward to using her when she was in that armor, things become incredibly easier, ya' know.
